My uncle gave me some aluminum welding rods that you heat up and use like solder to repair aluminum. I am almost certain he said you heat and melt the rods using either a Accetalien torch or one of those portable propane torches. Check with a welding shop to verify this and see what they have to say. I still have the rods and if they will work for the job, I could send them to you if you can't find any in your area.
combs welding stamping ground ky (just north of georgetown)502-868-6747. he is good and reasonable
I had mine done at a local machine shop here in Ghent. He used a tig to weld a patch, after I had a piece of broken leaf-spring bounced off the road and knocked a hole "big enough to throw a cat through" in the skin.
I'm not sure where in NKY you are, but you could look in the yellow pages for machine shops in your area.
If you're close to Carroll Co., email me and I'll look up the number for the shop here.
