I may have the opportunity to fish Guist Creek between Christmas and New Years. I typically don't fish in December, but with family obligations I haven't been able to fish seriously this year. I was wondering if I could get some advice. I have used the float and fly in a local farm pond and was thinking of trying it, but I am struggling with the right area of the lake to try it. I was also going to try some shakey heads fished slow. Any help would be appreciated. If I get to go, I will post any results.
Stay in the mid. lake area work the channel cuts-stay close to the channel 3/8 oz jigs GL to u PS don,t forget to slow roll a white spinnerbait if the water is dirty.............I may have the opportunity to fish Guist Creek between Christmas and New Years. Leave the fly's at home. Jig fish like George said. Fish it slow and then slower. Dark colored jigs and please practive catch and release. There are some pigs caught out of that lake every winter.
At this time of year a jig or tube is your best bet. Check out the photo board to see how good it has been lately.
I fish it all year round Ive caught some nice ones this Nov. and Dec. go to the photo board (6lb 1oz on a plastic worm ) my partner caught one couple weeks ago (6lbs 9ozs on a small jig) fish really really slow small jigs and small plastics (Paca Craw -Smallie Beaver) everthing we marked on Dec. 7 was in 10ft plus water
I know a certain coach that woudn't mind going with you, if you have the room. Give me a call.-Coach P
I've been thinking of trying FnF there, too. Better be tied on if one of them hybrids hits it.
I went 12/29 and fished the main lake and points with jigs. The lake temp ranged from 42 to 45 and water clarity was good. I caught a fat 1 1/2 pounder at about 8:15 on the first cast and as I have read on this board evoked the first cast catch jinx. We didn't get a bite the rest of the day. Caught the one fish on a main lake point in 10 ft. of water on a black w/ blue speckled paca craw on a shakey head jig head. Thank you to everyone who provided information it really helped me out. I don't get out very often and having some help really goes a long long way. Most guys were fishing jigs and one guy was using the float and fly. Saw one other guy catch one on a jig, but not sure how the guy with the F n F did.
Good to hear you got out before the big freeze hit!I never had the first cast jinx...never caught one on the first cast!
