I know I'm probably opening pandora's box here but what are your thoughts on some of the size limits? I know that the people at F&W put cedar 1@ 20" but my problem there is people keeping them once they hit 20" Why wasn't this lake built,kept shut down for 4 or 5 years then catch and release only(bass)? Isn't that how trophy lakes are made? How about a Lake Fork slot 16-24"? 1 under 16"? I am pretty confused with some of the biologist thought process. How about that lake in Virginia that is a trophy lake (catch and release only,public lake) Hey, if they can grow a 16 lber, we can too if the state would enforce the creel limits and go to a full slot or full c&r at the designated "trophy lakes" Am I missing something here?

I am all for catch and release. I hate seeing bass kept - that is one less fish I will have the opportunity to catch (and I need all the help I can get). I don't know how it would play out for tournaments, though.

I'll buy into the 30" size limit!A friend that used to be a warden (quit because of low pay) told me that Gov Patton told F&W that he was tired of seeing people die on the water and to check for life jackets only- To he#@ with the fish. I have to believe him mainly because he is honest but also I have been checked for lifejackets 4 times since then,NEVER had license or livewell checked and they didn't even ask if the fish were biting. OK, I"ll pass the law..... 30" size limit 1 keeper over 30" 1 under 8" - 8"-30" slot!!! Anyone caught with a slot fish in the livewell will be forced to fish taylorsville in a 10 ft jonboat with a 5hp motor on Saturdays and eat catfish stinkbait for lunch.

Bring on the 25 inch size limit for CC -Now if you get one thats it for the year lol-- ummmm 25 inch that would make all my pet fish babys again-Bring it on..........

Coming up with size/creel limits is a lot more complex than it seems. There are an awful lot of factors to take into account. I don't envy KDFWR this task; there's no way to do it without p***ing off one group of people or another.

Well, I couldn't resist. Size limits, rules and regulations are only good if they are enforced. We do not have enough conservation officers and people can break game laws in the woods or on the water without fear of being caught. Fishing is open 24-7-365. No closed season. Our lakes are not what they could be or should be because of this. Fishermen and hunters combined spent $1.3 billion in the state of Kentucky with fishermen spending the lion share at $880 million. If fishermen and hunters would use the political power of the voting booth, we could have what we want. Bass fishing is no longer a sport to put food on the table. The majority of anglers just want Bass in our lakes for Catch and Release, but the minority of anglers are impacting the resource negatively and we all pay for it. As for rules and regulations, there is 9 commissioners that decide what rules and regulations that will be on our rivers and streams. In other words, we need to ban together, go to commission meetings, Kentucky has some of the best fishing opportunities in the nation. But, it has no enforcement and the tax base resource that fishing and hunting has provided for the state, some of that money should go to ky f&w so that they could hire more conservation officers to protect that resource. this link will take you to the website to show how much money is spent on fishing & hunting in all the states www.sportmenslink.org, the old saying about the squeaky wheel gets the grease will always apply, but we need to complain to the people that can make these changes!!!!!! john

it doesn't matter what size limits you put into effect.They do not effect those of us who practice catch and release,or even minimal harvest,i do on occasion if fishing for eats keep a few slots and or spots to make for a mess of fish,i don't keep 200 crappie,bass,and cats if combinedin a year probably.i will load up on whites sometimes but still not close to limit very many times.
Those you see keeping everything don't give a **** about regs,just ask them if they know what the regs are and they'll show you you are number one..
i bet cedar creek would be no different if it had a straight 15 inch limit on it as far as numbers of big fish go.Next time you are at nolin and rough WATCH closely to people fishing off their docks,lots of em go by one regulation,head on one end tail on the other it is keepable.it would be like trying to give everyone on 65 a speeding ticket.the fla.bass that grows large is a different species and the have a year round growing season,i would say here they would still be 6lbers,just have huge mouths.

Everybody and their brother likes to keep bass. Heck, I've seen a lady trying to give away a 5 pound bass on a stringer, about 6 hours after she caught it. People think they are on to something special when they keep a bass.

So therein lies the main problem. People like to keep big fish. Well, it takes a long time for a fish to grow big. If I were the head biologist of a lake, heres how I would set it up. Catch and release policy on bass, except for the huge ones. Maybe only let people keep bass over 22 inches. I'd let people keep other fish for food purposes.
