River (McAlpine) on Monday

Okay I'm still a river beginer so forgive me for this!
But I want to go on monday. I'm off and it should be quite warm that day. The river forecast, though, is a little weird, and I don't want to drive all the way down there and be disappointed when I find it unfishable. Now keep in mind, I'm a bank fisherman, unless someone would be so kind to take me in a boat :-D
But anyways, NOAA is forcasting the lower to be at 33 on monday, which, to my memory, is too high to fish, while the upper is going to be at 13, which is perfect to fish. So whats up? Whats it going to be doing that day? Fishable? Not fishable? Whats the exact level for "fishability". Thanks guys!

I don`t fish that dam but I do fish meldahl, If that dam is like meldahl in anyway, water for sauger past 25 feet at meldahl is a bust. So if your driving a long way it might be an expensive trip, gas, coffee, breakfast, bait. This time of year tipping your jig with minnows and large ones at that can also make a difference in your catch rate. Im only basing this on the meldahl lower pool. Since you said your getting back in river fishing I have found fishing at meldahl with a 7`6" , 8` and a 8`6" rod of whatever spinning or baitcast will improve your rate on not snagging as bad , I use a okuma 8` and st croix 8`6" both salmon and steelhead rods. The okuma you can get at dicks for 45 bucks. These rods I use for hybrid, sauger, whites, up there. And before you invest a lot of money in jig heads check out this site, www.jigs4you.com. Today instead of the river I am going to try Kincaid out.

So EZGO did you go to Kincaid? i was wondering if it was frozen and if you did any good. I am thinking of fishing it a little more this year and i am strictly Catch and Release. If you want you can pm me is you don't want to broadcast you report. Thanks

So what would you all say? No go for tomorow? Anyone else got any suggestons for somewhere near Louisville to go?

The river is not the place to go with the water that high. Some on here may think differently but I won't do the below dam trip if the lower gauge is above 18 feet or so.

If I were going tomorrow I would try Nolin, Rough, or Barren. Some fish ought to be stirring up relatively shallow on the lakes by now.

There's some, but not a lot. I've only fished it from a boat, but I'm pretty sure that bank fishing there entails clambering down a fairly steep, treacherous hill, which probably wouldn't be fun in the mud. But boat rentals there are reasonable. It's been about a year and a half since I rented from them, but it was only about $50/day then, including gas. It's only a 360 acre lake, so those little jonboats they rent are all you need. Give 'em a call. I've seen a few nice hybrids caught there in the winter, mostly on big shiners, trolled deep, in the deepest park of the lake, next to the really steep hill. Good luck.

Is the gage you're referring to the one that the USCG tables call "Ohio River at Louisville?"
