fished about 6 hrs today. wow what a strange sensation to be HOT in early february. only had one bite and one fish -> 17in smallie on float n fly. jig, shaky, swim bait and blade bait -> no takers. spent most of day float n fly but really weird to only have one bite. water temps up to 45 after the rain. storm has not come through somerset yet and i am wondering if it is going to hit. came upon a big school of stripers eating shad - try as i might, they would not bite -> float n fly, 3in swim bait (one flashed on it) and blade bait. they were swimming around with their mouths open and just inhaling shad. i fished around bait all day and just could not find any bass that wanted to bite.

had a silver buddy, that was the blade bait i referred to. they would not touch it. i pulled through the shad they were eating and hooked the shad wiht the buddy and also with the swim bait. they still would not eat my offerings!
shoulda thrown a spook on them stripers...bout a month ago me and my brother found em and caught 3 that ranged from 15 to 25lbs
since i was bass fishing, i did not have a topwater tied on. really thought the stripers would eat the swim bait but they would only "flash" on it and roll away. the shad they were eating were just basically quivering on the surface.
yea for some reason they wasnt hitting a jerkbait my brother threw at them better than the spook...they would just swipe at it instead of take it...but on the spook they engulfed it and scared the crap outa ya when they hit it
catching stripers on a spook is just one of those things that you gotta do. i purposely work the bait as fast as possible to see how many times they will miss and come back up. when they finally get it, man what a blast!!!!
