    do u know a HouseB-er, knows his props?

    Hoping one of you know or might know someone who knows this issue:
    what size prop Id need.
    New 4 stroke 115 yamaha going on a 58ft. alum hull Houseboat,

    Foremost is docking control, thinking about a 4 blade, here in the HB capital of the world everybody's gone south, going to put this motor on in a couple weeks, so any help appreciated ..........

    Not like old bass-boat days when the dealler meet u at the ramp with a radar gun and 4 or 5 props

    cant pull this unit out

    I am just guessing here but I have a 5 blade prop on my boat. It is a deep v aluminum and in reverse it is horrible. I would assume that a 4 blade would give same results. I would say a 3 blade with big blades and high pitch would give you optimal control. I know speed is not going to be an issue with a house boat so I would say the more water you could get a bite of the better off you would be. The more blades that are on a prop the smaller they get.

    rickhise;
    There is now a prop made for houseboats, made by Propco. These props have what is called a "reverse hook cup" meaning they do real well in reverse. Here is a webpage for your engine or you can call these guys ane they will help ya choose one. They are very reasonably priced imo. I have a set of these on my HB, and there is a huge difference in the reverse power from my old props.
    For an outboard of that size I would guess a 14x11 or 14x10 with the reverse hook cup. I think 10 or 11 pitch is what they run on the boats at HCR. They have also started using these Propco props, and the guys that drive them around the dock daily will tell you there is a lot of difference in reverse with them. Here is the link, go to the botom of the page for your size motor. Hope this helps with your decision, I don't think you'll be sorry using one of these.
