    Internal or External GPS

What is the difference between the internal and external GPS in the Lowrance 520?

    Re: Internal or External GPS

If you one with an internal gps reciever, you need to make sure it is out in the open - (on a RAM) mount. If it is out in the open beside your console, or up front, it will pick up just as good as the external puck. If you wanted to mount it in the dash, or anywhere without a clear path to the sky - you would need the one with the external puck to get a solid signal.

    Re: Internal or External GPS

On the internal models, the antenna is inside the unit. Some of these do not have the best design and the antenna is on the back and bottom of the unit. If you like to have the top tilted way back when you view the screen, this can/will be a problem.

I am pretty sure the original Eagle and/or Lowrance models had the antenna in the back and bottom.
