    PWC Legislation

Ran across this on the KDFWR website. The plan is to mandate that all persons operating a jet-ski born after 1-1-91 to possess a safe boting certificate. Additionally, it prohibits anyone under 12 years of age from operating a jet-ski or a boat with a 10 hp or higher without an adult. Also prohibits the operation of all jet-skis from dusk till dawn. Does anyone think that this will cut back on some of the jet-ski trafic... at least for a little while? What is your opinion of this legislation?

Here is alink to the actual text of the bill (HR452)

    Keep on chuckin'

This won't help a thing, you can pass all the legislation and laws you want, but until there is enforcement, nothing IMO will change.
I have seen the Water Patrol boat at Hendricks Creek out of its slip only twice in 07,and I'm there more than I'm home. It has set so long you can smell the rotten gas coming from the tank vent. Until they actually put in the hours ON the water, things will be the same they have been. I have been boating and fishing for 30yrs and one things remains constant, the WP is never around when you need them. Oh they will come if you call them (sometimes). Now in Tennesse, they do a little better job than Ky. At least this is my observance on Dale Hollow. Other smaller lakes may be different, as they are easier to cover. JMO.

They should make them wear helmets to protect them from the egg sinkers that they will get tossed at them if they continue to zip around some fisherman! LOL

    Re: PWC Legislation

Most all of this is already in effect. The only thing the bill changes is the part about being born after 1991. The way the law is now a person could wait until they turn 18 and not have to have any training. It still grandfathers persons born before 1991. If passed anyone born after 1991 would have to have the training, they couldn't just wait until they are 18.
This is all in the boating guide.

    Re: PWC Legislation

I started riding jet skis when I was 10. I've logged many many hours on them well before the age of 18. They passed that law back in 1999 about the safety course/certification, luckily I turned 18 that May and never had to fool with it...I actually got stopped by the water patrol two days before my birthday, and he just gave me a verbal warning and said to wait two days before riding again

I always hoped that the certification law would put an end to all the jet ski rental places...I've seen too many wrecks over the years because of that crap. Since 1999, I don't think I see as many of those places as I used to, not sure if it's high insurance, or maybe if it's just me, I don't know.

There will never be an end to jet skis...sorry to break it to you. About the only thing going for a decline is the high price of fuel...you can burn 13 gallons out of one of those in about an hour or two, depending on how many waves you're jumping or how much hard riding you do. They're a blast and about the only ones that don't like them are fishermen...so I guess the war will continue on
