Been there done that on Dale and C-Land more often then I'd like to count. Guess this makes us want it more next time.

Didn't catch squat, nil, zero, nuttin, not even a sniff from a fish from 7:45 am to 3:00 pm. Water temps were found from 47.5 in Illwill Creek, to 50.9 on the main lake, 49.5 in Sulphur Creek and 50.7 in Wolf Creek.... The water up in Wolf Creek past the Marina on the left past Illwill was stagnant and a big scum muck was up on top of the water. Plus alot of trash and debris which prevented me from getting my jig and whatever else I used down thru the junk without getting stuff on my lure. Some of the guys in the club caught some fish and one I know was caught on a Shakey Head worm.
Just a total loss for words on not catching nuttin on the Famous Dale Hollow.....
Water in Wold Creek was really stained and it looked like a green stain (dark) was all around the creek. The main lake was clear and Illwill and Sulphur were some what stained with some good looking color to clear in area's. Never seen the first fish actually caught the whole day.![]()

Your day was better than mine. I never left the house!! I just sent a PM to you.
Been there done that Clyde many times at Dale back in 2004 and 2005. Luckily I have only had one skunk days since on Dale Hollow and that day I had 3sons give me a $350 G Loomis FNF rod as a gift so I really can't count that day as a skunk. I do remember my best 2 straight day skunk ever, if there is a BEST 2 straight day skunk. I left Frankfort around 3am Saturday, the day Patrick Sparks did the 2-step as he was being fouled by a Louisville player, hit the free throws to win it for the Big Blue, and launched at Hendricks Creek just before daylight, fished all day until just before dark with nothing, notta, no bites, no fish. Put her on the trailer and drove back to Frankfort, parked the boat, unloaded and put on the cover. Watched the taped basketball game and went to bed around 10pm. Laying there in bed, I decided I was going back the next day, my wife said I was an idiot, but I set the alarm for 2am, broke some ice off the cover, loaded her up and back to Hendricks Creek for another all day of nothing, notta, no bites, no fish. Put her on the trailer just before dark and headed back to Frankfort. Just about 600 miles driven total in both round trips to Dale from Frankfort for NOTHING. Wife still said I was an idiot but I like to think I was DEDICATED. But there is a fine line between DEDICATED and IDIOCRACY and I have been known to overstep that line many times but nothing like a nice big 5lb Brownfish in hand to hand mortal combat with a 10 foot buggy whip. Call me what you want but when you call me, I hope I answer the phone sitting in my boat on Dale Hollow casting to one of my 5 or 6lb honey holes. IT TAKES A WHOLE LOT OF FISHING FOR A LITTLE BIT OF CATCHING. But when THAT day or THAT trip takes place it makes up for all these ZERO days. I have had many more Skunk days than Outstanding days, more so so days than really good days but that is part of the game. If we all went out and caught 50 fish per day of whatever species and they were all excellent quality, then the lakes would be a lot more full than they already are. I hate crowds so I may have to take up basketweaving if this ever happens. Keep your head up Clyde.
I can understand how you feel...if you're like me, you get on fishin.com and read what everybody's doing and where they're doing it at, whether it be Dale, Cumberland, Cedar, Guist or where ever...and then you yourself go out and try some of the places you've read about along with some of the lures and techniques, but it doesn't work. And then to make matters worse, you come back home, and you begin thinking about how much money you have invested in equipment. Once you start thinking about it all then you start asking yourself where you're going wrong, etc....Heck man, your post is an inspiration to me, it makes me feel good to know that I'm not the only guy that sometimes zero's out...there will be more days to come, the more you go the greater your chances of success are going to be. And just like on other person said here, you did better yesterday than me too for I was at the Kentucky Fair and Exposition Center with my wife and I don't know how many different breed's of dog's.
Thanks for your report!!!
I have only fished KY for the past 14 yrs, and I have never had good trips this time of year.I know when I launch that boat that there is going to be muddy water in my favorite spots, dodging debris to get to another, and find that there are probably 10 boats fishing my other spots becauseof a tournament. Thats why week end have been taboo for me for the past 5 or 6 years. Its frustrating, and I'm not only fishing for a particular species. The river [cumberland] is roaring, too much junk to troll, to swift to cast, I know these things, but there i am, getting whupped. It was different up north,a three hour drive, and there were either sauger, or steel head trout, or shore fishing for coho, but things will get better. These are the times that try mens souls.
Second year at the infamous Dale Hollow....me too ZERO, but this is 2nd time...glad we get to toss one, but I'll probably toss Piercy, while I would love to fish it, I thinks me fishing Derby Classic is more feasable...lets calculate....3 days on Percy to will tops $300, and I'll spend >$300 in gas food and hotel....while the river is a 40 minute ride for me and a chance to win 6k......hmmmmmmmmm.....
Love the club...but not this time.... are you going Clyde
Carl
Thanks for the post. Clyde everybody and I do mean everybody gets skunked by the fish once and awhile.
