    Talking coming to barkely,help?

coming down to barkley on March 23-28, if anyone has the answers to where and how please respond. staying at lake barkley state park. with all the water there and i hear the lake is coffee colored is it better to stay in the little river at this time, we would like to fish for crappies and bass but will catch anything. would we be better off taking the boat to Ky. lake? I fish many dark colored lakes here in Wis. I assume the same tactics would apply to dark barkley, loud spinners, rattles, bright colors. Is all the rain going thru yesterday and today going to make things impossible, flooding etc. My son and I are quite fired up for this trip and would love to have a sucessful spring break. thanks neal
PS I have been posting on your board for a few months and am impressed with how helpful and open everyone is. Our boards up here seem to gravitate toward everything but fishing, looking forward to hearing from y'all. lol lunge1.

    Re: coming to barkely,help?

Dave Stewart, Nitro, Col Forbin and a host of other good folks have been responding to KY Lake and Barkley questions all week. Scroll down thru the threads and see that Barkley is very Muddy. Its raining again today. It could change some, the level was actually going down slightly this morning. Fish have been biting on KY Lake from what I'm reading. You can always travel to KY Lake by boat or trailering from anywhere around. Watch the wind forecasts, but I'd expect the fishing to be good for you next week for bass and crappie. There are also a great full report that Dave Stewart keeps updated every week. For that we thank him a bunch.

The lake temps have really warmed upthis week. I havent been on the lake since Sun. The wind and all the rain has kept me indoors(BUMMER)....
The lake is being forcast to drop some over the next few days so that will pull some of the fish out of the real shallow water.

When i was on the lake last week the fish were biting pretty good and i would guess with the water warming up it will get better. If you fish on Barkley and dont have any luck you can always trailer to Ky its only about 15 miles from where your staying..

Keep an eye out for Dave Stewarts fishing report cause he will have all the current news about both lakes. I look forward to his reports every week... Good Luck!!!!

Fished little river once last week. Water was very muddy pretty much out to the main lake. With all the rain I would assume it hasn't cleared yet. Maybe by the time you get here it will look better. Ky Lake was very productive for us. We had several boats with the daily 12 fish limit last week. Should be a great trip with all the big girls starting to move shallow.

I would love to help, but the Marquette comment kind of got me!! LOL
I don't know if barkley will clear up much by this weekend. It is pretty muddy with a ton of debris, but it may be worth a try. I do know you are a couple of bridges away from Ken-lake and Jonathan creek on Ky (just go to the bathroom before you make the trip - that 68 bridge is skinny, and I have about crapped my pants before while trailering a boat and meeting a semi on the bridge). Ky has been pretty good for me too the past couple of weeks. It has some stain to it, but it is definitely fishable. I don't fish Barkley too much, other than the far north end. I do love the Barkley state park area. If all else fails you can drive into Cadiz and go to Ferrells for some of the best cheesburgers going.

You had every honey hole that I know of on both Kentucky and Barkley including what to throw, what color, where the grass line is, where the chunk rock is, which ledge is the best and where to find the best food in the area just before the GO MARQUETTE....now you will get nothing from me for here it is GO BIG BLUE. Heres hoping you have 7 flat tires on the way down, your truck overheats the whole way, the boat won't start after you drift off the trailer, your deep cycle batteries bust on the trip down and spill battery acid everywhere, your tackle box falls out somewhere on the highway during the trip, every baitcaster backlashes so bad on the first cast that you just cut off the bait and shove them back in the rod box, your spinning reels spit line out everywhere on the first cast and you get loops so bad that a knife is your only choice, your only map gets wet and all your markings run everywhere and that is just Day 1, on Day 2 after you get new deep cycle batteries and your motor starts but then you hit a floater just outside the no wake area and tear off the lower unit plus it punctures a hole in your boat and you are doing the backstroke back to the ramp watching your favorite boat now become "Off Shore Structure". Your truck keys and wallet were in a storage compartment of your boat so you have to get your wife to overnight money and keys to you, then nobody will give you a ride back to the lodge for you are wearing that MARQUETTE sweatshirt "Proudly" so you walk the few miles back and develop blisters that get infected to the point that you say to yourself and you fishing buddy "We should have stayed in Wisconsin for these Ky Waters are tough on us Northerners". Now that you are thinking this guy has gone completely nuts and are questioning if we are all this way down here, the answer is "YES, when it comes to our beloved Basketball". Any team that has ever knocked us out of the big dance is our mortal enemies and especially a team that knocked us out in the Elite Eight when we were Number 1, undefeated in the SEC and it was not Dwayne Wade that beat us (even though he did have a triple double), it was that FRESHMAN that had the game of his life that beat us. We are spoiled Big Blue fans that expect to win it every year and if this does not happen then the second we are knocked out is the last second that I/we watch anymore of the Big Dance for there is no meaning left if the Big Blue does not win. With all that being said, I hope you have a nice and wonderful trip to the "South" and hopes that you catch so many fish your thumbs and palms are bleeding so violently that you need a few pints of blood transfused every night off the water (there I go again)... Good Luck

Don't make Elnut angry, he has knocked out people for less than this!! Yest badmouthing UK basketball, or supporting their opponents is considered more of an offense than pulling a knife on someone.

Oh my God I didn't even notice the Go Marquette reference. I highly recommend not wearing the Marquette gear in that part of the state. Heck any part of the state. I live just outside of Louisville and there are more UK fans in Louisville than UofL fans. So if by chance your team beats us never mind gotta go Billy G is on the Jim Rome show.

    Re: coming to barkely,help?

I believe there was a Kentucky State Law that recently passed that makes it LEGAL to knock out anyone that is wearing a University School Sweatshirt that has EVER defeated the Big Blue in a basketball game. I think the same law says if you can't knock them out then it is legal to cut in front of them and fish the bank or point that the opposing Sweatshirt wearing fisherman was just about to fish, and or, snag any fish that said opposing fisherman is trying to catch and put it in your own boat or just knock it off his hook. I will have to check on this but I am pretty sure this is the LAW.

Lunge1 - you're going to have to be versital. You might try Barkley the 1st day but don't hesitate to trailer over to KY lake and give it a try. When we go we stay off the lake and trailor every day, its no big deal. The main thing is your down there. From the State park your 5/10 miles from KY lake and a ramp is on the east side right at the bridge that will put you in smallmouth heaven - jerkbait, red crank for the boy (east side of KY Lake) crappie in the coves plus largemouth as well. Report back when you return - good luck -
