    Cland Lake/River Report 3/22

We hit the lake about 2pm at the dam. It was the first time I had been to the new ramp there and it is awesome. We ran clear to the back of Beaver Creek and threw shad swimbaits shallow near submerged weeds with no luck. We had hooked into 6 and landed 4 in 20 min at the same place last week. We then came about halfway back to BC marina and cast jerkbaits and swimbaits against bluff walls with no luck. Very little debris in the water for all of the rain that we have had. Water was pretty stained way back in the creeks but cleared up pretty quick. Right before dark ran to Jamestown marina area and cast redfins and slivers with no luck on points. I guess it's a little early for the redfin bite yet. Loaded the boat on the trailer and my friend, his truck, his boat, decides let's fish for sauger below the dam. What the heck, let's do it!

We put in at the ramp there at Kendall about 930. Nice ramp. I had never put in there before. I usually put in at Helms Ferry and float down. Anyway, probably 5 other boats on the water and generating on what appeared to be 2-3 turbines. We fished for about 3 hrs and caught 7-9 sauger on a little 2" hammered spoon-thing jerking it off of the bottom. Size was about 15-17" with some of them having some girth and others not much more than a tube. I guess about 4 weeks ago is when that area was really hot and is just winding down. Nice day on the water and a few fish to boot!

Thanks for taking the time to give a report! Don't forget you must have a trout stamp to fish in the Cumberland River even if you are not fishin' for trout. Heard they've been checking.

Fished today for about 4 hours. usually dont fish week ends. Fished about 3/4 of the way down indian creek, water clear to slightly stained, temp around 49 degreesCaught 2 kys one on a rapala slash bait, one on a shad rap, and got one one 15 lb striper on a tube jig.One other bump on a slash bait. that 15 buck lucky suspending bait still hasn't drawn a strike.I'm gonna try the FNF one more time, and hang it up for the season, its not my favorite way to fish.

Just got back myself and did not have any luck in the Beaver Creek area. I pulled shiners Fri morning from 6 am until 10 am back in the creek and didnt have a pull down. Fish/bait marked everywhere in the 10-20 ft range but they were not feeding. Fished a little at night and threw some slivers and bucktails and again, no takers. Lake was clear up to about halfway back and it was slightly stained. Not much debris either.

I was in a green lund. How did the rest of the trip go for you. If it was you who told me you caught 3 before sundwon TH night, i tried it on friday night and had no luck. I threw bucktails early and slivers as it got dark. the bite was off on my boat. I talked to another boat who got skunked too.

Yes that was me on the dock. We stopped pulling bait all together on Friday night. We ended up catching 8 on Fri evening/night with 2 of them pushing 20lbs. one on a jig about 2 hours before dark and one on a sliver about an hour after dark. If you saw me in the 2 little flats that i was fishing that is where all the fish were caught at. The wind had the bait pushed in there tight and the fish were rolling on them pretty good for at least an hour before dark and kept going after dark just not as much. We had 3 on slivers on the flat after dark. Then Sat. morning we had 1 on a jig and 1 on a sliver early in the morning and pulled out and went home at 10am. Sorry you did not have a better trip. I think the fish should still be going strong. they were right on the bank for the most part and up in the bushes a lot. Well if you see me down there again stop by and say hi. Sorry i did not talk to you longer. Good luck and take care.
