Heck Larry that sounds pretty good at least you got out.Count your blessings think of Elwood and the stuff he went through as he layed there wishing for an opportunity of fishing Dh or Cumberland.

Gave the FNF its final try for the year. The snow was falling, the wind in the hollows blew every way but up, and the water temps were at 48 degrees. 4 hours of throwing that stupid bobber, one pull down, and one 17 inch smb.The water was clear in the main creek, and stained in the backs of a lot of them. switched to a jig and jerk bait for another two hours, one bump.I got spanked good, the shoulders and arms are aching, will need at least two days to recover, besides I hear 15 mile winds and higher gusts for tommorow.Wednesday its back to DH,and cranks and jigs. the FNF tghis year on cumberland wasn't that good for me. Got 11 SMB one big LMB, and that was on 6 trips.

If it sounds like complaining sorry! But I do count my blessings. the fever is just not there as much as it used to be, maybe these old bones are finally rebeling.I'm not counting the couple of trips that were with out the FNF, and the several trips to the river. I try to average two or three fishing days a week, and since I'm not hooked on one species, I have not once this winter fished before 0900, and have never stayed out past dark. But that will soon change, when the warm weather gets here.I have started to really like bluegills, and trout fishing, and soon the striper bite will start in ernest, got to get on a training program. That old saying"if I knew I'd live this long, I would have taken better care of myself," finally sunk in.
Saddest day in the fishing year for Elnutsmalljaws, Elwood, Woody or anything else you want to call me (for I have an ex-wife and have been called the worst names possible so none of them will hurt my feelings). Broke down the All Pro FNF rod, put her in her silk laced lined steel rod holder, placed 7 different locks on the case then inside the gun case and locked that door as well, rolled her into the vault and closed and locked that door as well, put my 24 hour night watchman on alert for the next 8 months to keep her safe.
Saddest day of my fishing year is when I put her up for the year and the best is around Thanksgiving Day when I am fatter and happier full of turkey and know that the next season is just a few short days away. Maybe I will get more than 9 total days on the FNF water next year verus what I got this year. I did manage right at 50 total Smallies on the fly in 9 days with a 6-6, 5-15, 4-9, 4-8, 4-7, 4-3 and a 4-2, not to mention the 2 MASSIVE 3" Crappie out of Guist Creek in 43 degree Chocolate milk. In reading LarryG's post, the best bite is and has always been from sunup to 11am at Dale Hollow. If I am not sitting on my #1 spot making cast before I can see the bobber then I have missed opportunities. There has been probably 30 days or so over the past few years when I or somebody in my boat has landed a 4lb+ fish within the first 10 or so cast just after we start seeing the bobber. For me it is a couple of days at Barren this weekend, then 19 glorious days at Ky and Barkley on 3 different trips from April 2nd thru May 6th. I will start chasing these "Trashfish, Greencarp" (just kidding Hens), Largemouth Bass for now until the end of May when I return to the Hollow for my 3 months of night fishing for Giant Smallies again. Sure do wish I could have gotten more than 9 days on the water FNF fishing this season but I guess I should count myself lucky for there were several days November/December that I never thought I would set eyes on the lake again, much less a beautiful Smallmouth Bass in person. Funny how life is.
