Try downsizing your lure. For some reason this works in these instances as well as when they are striking short.

To me chasers but no takers means they were interested but just something was not right. I would change my retrieve to a crank and stop first, then maybe dowsize in the same color pattern, then go back to the original size and try a color just a bit different from the one you was originally casting. If all of this fails, maybe try a Shadrap suspending model crankbait or jerkbait. This is just me.
hey D elwood hit the nail on the head. slow down and have lots of patience. work a jerkbait and maybe throw in a good 15 to 30 second pause. you would be surprised what that will do for some brownies right now. especially with the water temps hovering in the mid to upper 40's. don't forget the fly either, you could be missing out on some real good fishing. it takes a little extra patience on laurel this time of year, i mean it's not like your slinging groceries trying to make production or anything. lolFished Rogers Creek. Like others have said try changing it up a bit. Stop it on a dime will sometimes get them to strike. I have had success doing one thing though. Throw right in behind it with a soft plastic (fluke, grub, or senko). This has worked for me on missed topwater fish and chasing fish.
This may sound stupid but are you sure they weren't trout? Every time we fish laurel the trout will follow almost any bait to the boat. And on sometimes you will catch some.Fished Rogers Creek.
