    A big disappointment

About every 2 years I purchase a 1 lb spool of BPS 12lb Excel line and have been very satisfied with the product because of its quality and it was made in the U.S.A. The spool I am now using was made in the U.S.A but was spooled in CHINA. During the recent BPS sale I purchased another 1lb spool which was on sale and after I got home and was looking at my purchases I noticed that the new spool of line was made in CHINA. I am tempted to take it back and try to find some line that was made in the USA. Does anyone know of a good mono line that is USA made? Not that I have anything against China, but enough is enough.

Amen to that. I hadn't really thought about it, but I should be more aware of where the fishing products I buy are made. I just checked and Pure Fishing products (Berkley Trilene & Spiderwire) are made in the USA. I also have some PLine but it is made in Japan. I also just checked the two new BPS reels I bought and both are made in China. I will definitely be more aware of this in the future.

Man I feel your pain on the American made issue. I just started using Sufix for the first time this year and thus far I like it. I bought Sufix Seige and got it strictly for use on my spinning reels. This line seems to allow for further casts than the line I was using before, which right now I can't remember what kind of line I had on my spinning reels last year, it might have been Pline...but I still use Pline on my baitcasters. I just checked the package and it doesn't say where the line is made...I also checked online at www.sufix.com and I didn't see where they said anything about where the product was made.

Sufix is manufactured in Taiwan or China by Yao I Fabric Co. They have a distribution center in North Carolina, but no manufacturing.

    Re: A big disappointment

All, I know first hand that BPS Excel fishing line is extruded at Shakespeare's monofilament facility in Columbia, SC using US produced nylon polymer. It is packaged in large bulk reels, shipped to China for repackaging into consumer sized spools. If you buy the branded Shakespeare Sigma, you are getting the same polymer formula as the Excel. The Shakespeare Sigma is not available in low vis green and is only supplied under the Excel brand.

For my spinning reel applications where I use mono, I only use BPS Excel green. Its the most supple and limp formula I've found. Downside is that it does not have great abrasion resistance and has a lot of stretch but I change the line out frequently, and with the newest graphite technology I have no issues what-so-ever with feel....in fact I like the stretch for all of my spinning mono applications.....fewer misses on crankbait/jerkbait hits and far fewer shake-offs when momma shakes her head like Shakira.

My dog walkers (Spooks/Sammie's) and Carolina Rigs (mono leader) I prefer a braid.

Thank the Politicians, Corporate America and all the back scratching that goes on behind closed doors for this. I find it hard to believe that you can be a fisherman (especially bass) without buying something from another country. That ship has sailed many year ago. I remember this discussion on automobiles, electronics and agriculture through the years.

    Re: A big disappointment

I'm sorry, but I cannot get on board with this.......WE ALL are GUILTY of the problem.....

If you want to buy American, the BUY AMERICAN. BUT understand, that polo shirt that you bought for $15.00 Made in CHINA, will cost you $70.00 if it was made here.....Same for practically EVERYTHING you purchase.

If you want to ensure American Jobs are protected, the you MUST lower the cost of manufacturing the product here. AND the BEST way to do that, is to lower your workforce costs, BUT that becomes ugly.......

Bottom Line.........I know people who make $70,000 putting a SCREW in a HOLE, or pushing a broom. These are NOT $70,000 a year jobs.........

Sorry, but buying from CHINA is not the problem.

    Later,

    Geo

    Lightbulb Re: A big disappointment

Good American mono? well everybody has they're preference but I personally use Berkley Big Game (which is made in the USA). It is strong as steel and holds up pretty good in the rocks/brush, with that said it will get line memory so using reel magic or the stuff KVD is pushing helps improve that a little longer. I have many people switch to it after giving it a whirl and they haven't looked back. Cost is the other thing the "Big Game" is a little cheaper but for this one time I found you get more than you pay for! You may have to change it every 6 weeks if you fish alot but try it.

    Viscious Line

Viscious Line is the best bang for the buck out there. Made in USA and top quality.

    Re: A big disappointment

I realize this thread is old, but when checking my email this morning I discovered that an old friend of mine had sent me the following. I read it and thought it fit this thread nicely.>>>>

John Smith started the day early having set his alarm clock (MADE IN JAPAN) for 6am.

While his coffeepot (MADE IN CHINA) was perking, he shaved with his Electric razor (MADE IN HONG KONG). He put on a dress shirt (MADE IN SRI LANKA), designer jeans (MADE IN SINGAPORE) and Tennis shoes (MADE IN KOREA )

After cooking his breakfast in his new Electric skillet (MADE IN INDIA) He sat down with his Calculator (MADE IN MEXICO ) to see how much he could spend today.

After setting his watch (MADE IN TAIWAN) to the radio (MADE IN INDIA) He got in his car (MADE IN GERMANY) filled it with GAS (from Saudi Arabia) and continued his search for a good paying AMERICAN JOB. At the end of yet another discouraging and fruitless day checking his Computer (Made In Malaysia), Joe decided to relax for a while.

He put on his sandals (MADE IN BRAZIL) Poured himself a glass of Wine (MADE IN FRANCE ) and turned on his TV (MADE IN INDONESIA), And then wondered Why he can't find a good paying job In AMERICA ...

    Re: A big disappointment

I figured out Mr Smiths problem..
    1) Mr. Smith should have used other resources like the phone for networking and searching out employment instead of paying for gas.
    2) Mr. Smith should have dressed up a little while looking for a good paying job because first impressions are important.
    3) Mr. Smith or Joe has a split personality and should be on meds.
    4) Mr. Smith don't know squat about getting up early if 6am is early...must not be a fisherman.
    Sorry I'm done....
