    Ky lake is looking good!

Today was the first time out in a bit, the high muddy water, winds, rains and I guess work has kept me grounded for several days at least. However, the lake looked outstanding. Water was much clearer than I expected (2-3' visibility with a white spinnerbait)- still a bit high, but that made it fun! The fish are scattered, but I was finding good numbers of small to average size fish shallow. Caught close to 20 in all, - all largemouth and only a handful (5 or 6) would have made the 15 inch mark, the biggest being close to 3 pounds. Not great if you were tournament fishing, but a very fun day. Caught a few flipping brush with b-hogs, one on a shakey head, one a c-rig a little deeper and the rest came on spinnerbaits. I actually have a bruise on the side of my chest from setting the hooks.

Overall, Ky lake is getting back to where it should be for this time of year (HOT!!). I didn't make to barkley - I hope it is clearing up too - I have a tournament there this weekend. I am just crossing my fingers we don't get the 3-5 inches of rain they are calling for the next day or so.

Forgot to mention - if anyone from work reads this - I guess my flu is so bad I am delerious and making things up. I guess my fever also made my face red - except around my eyes where shades would be.

Your right about it being on. Ive caught fish the last 2 days on just about everything ive thrown... I love it when the lake turns on like it has. @ awesome days in a row.. I sure hope they are wrong about all the rain.

If anybody has the time Ky lake is really turning on!!!!!!
Barkley is still stained and will probably get worse when it rains

Thanks for report! Can't wait either!!! First of May, Barkley here my dad and I come. Hope all of this high water swallow bite doesn't screw up the May swallow bite! Very scared about that!!! All that water can kill the flowers to soon. Was down at the end of last week with my girls just being a tourist and walking a playing around the lake and area. They had a ball walking trails and watching the bison. We drove everyroad that was pass able on lbl/trace to checkout the lakes, height and clarity. Wow, I got the fever bad.

Fished North Barkley for about 6 hours on Tuesday, Muddy and 56 or so temps. Wind was howling so I could not get to my HONEY HOLES with my Dad for he had both knees replaced a couple of years ago and he can't handle the waves. Stayed close to the ramp and we had 8 for the day all on traps. Went to North Ky on Wednesday and fished the LBL side and had 42 total, all on Baby Brush Hounds except for a few on cranks. Stained but not muddy like Barkley and a degree or two warmer. Fished this morning for about 4 hours before the lightning got closer and was coming out of the SW but did manage to land 29 this morning, 10 on baby brush hounds and 19 on crankbait. All 3 days the fish were small by no means of imagination. I had a 4 pounder on Wed that was the biggest of the trip but never seen so many fish in the 12-14" range in my life. Hens and myself will be back on North Barkley from the 12th thru the 18th and we should have 50 plus fish every day then. Looking a lot MORE like Christmas. HO HO HO

Re: Ky lake is looking good!

Hello all, I am fairly new to the site. I spent the last several days on both Ky and Barkley lake. Ky Lake was amazing last Saturday and Sunday, my father an I caught several over 4lbs, with the largest at 7 1/2. Best five fish would have been about 26 lbs on Saturday and 18lbs on Sunday. I tried North Barkley on Monday for a couple of hours with the kids. Caught two over 5lbs in about 30 minutes. Several more 14-15 inch fish. Kids had a blast. Barkly is heavily stained, muddy in places. You can find some clearer water on the LBL side though. Plan on going back this Satuday. Good luck all. I love this time of year.
