Curious to see when everyone will start throwing Buzzbaits. The water is on the warming trend so how soon is to soon. 55 and up, 60 and up????
No problem for me with 60 degree temps.
Never too soon if you slow row its just like a spinner bait.![]()
Hit a pond the other evening right at dark, and the fish would chase other baits (spinners, grubs, etc.) but would only commit to a LC Sammy (topwater walking bait). They would hit it very subtle, but I was working it extra slow for them. It was a very plesant suprise.
ok mr. stratos. you can start fishing the buzzbait probably about anytime now. ive caught buzzbait fish in cold water as well as warm. to be honest, i just about broke one out saturday in 54 degree temps. the shad and bass were hitting the top of the water, but the thing is, I DID NOT BRING ONE WITH ME!!! stupid mistake. anyhow, dont always through the big buzzbaits. my favorite is a short shanked 1/4 ounce. i do not miss many fish with this bait. there are times to up the size sometimes, but a 1/4 short shank is my #1 bass fishing bait in my bag!
I actually start throwing them when the water hits 50 and or the bait become active in backs of creeks or coves. I was just curious to see how many others were throwing them yet. I love me some Top-water Action!
Ok i have aready started too but with no luck yet. Some times when the bite is tough i try anything.![]()
Has anyone tried the one thats like 12 inches long? Same blade action but the bait hangs lower in the water so the fish really don't have to blow the surface. I've got one tied on for this weekend!
Anybody ever have much luck with top water baits at Cumberland? For what ever reason(s), something inside of me tells me to not throw top water baits in Cumberland unless surface acitivity is witnessed...Don't know why I feel this way, maybe because that lake is so dag gone deep???
now mhall, u must have forgot that old trusty trailor hook. put that thing on there and you wont have 2 get off![]()
*as far as cumberland goes, i would think a sammy or a spook would wear those smallies out in that clear water. only been there once though.
