Whew !!! Can you say " Water Everywhere " Fished Tues & Wed, lauched at KY Dam Villiage Tues & Wed in the parking lot. The road to the ramp was under water. We loaded the boat Wed afternoon at the ramp but couldn't see the top of it. Not sure how much rain they received Thurs but they don't need a drop. On to the fishing, Crappie fishing is pitiful !!!! The stake beds in the back of the coves are so flooded you can't even find the identifing pole that sticks up from them. Knew were a few of them were, 12 feet deep now and couldn't buy one out of it. Fished flooded bushes, nothing. Bass Fishing: You can catch throw-backs everywhere on anything. Finally found the keepers, had 6 Wed afternoon, We were fishing in the heads of coves off of the creeks that had houses because they tend to cleanup the shoreline where you could get to the fish. In the undeveloped areas the forest is so flooded, you couldn't get the boat back to the fish, imo. The fish were right on the bank 1-4 foot of water. We threw shacky-head rigs, 1 with a brush hog and the other with a worm.Keepers we caught were 16-17" nothing big, biggest fish 4lb came off of a secondary point on a crankbait but couldn't repeat it anywhere. 2 days of fishing, some time wasted on crappie fishing caught 2 crappie and about 30-35 bass (7 keepers)
I love a good honest report...Thanks
Good fishing report thanks
Sore Thumb II, I tried to reply to your post but it got lost so I created a new one. Let us know how you did when you return... be careful
Glad you got to at least fish hooksetter - I wimped out this week and finally decided to wait until the water is at a reasonable level, well at least launchable. I was doing good until the last batch of rain sent it back up. I blanked on a tournament last sunday. Just when I thought I had it figured out here. I am ready to get back out for some redemption.
Next time you go to ky lake during extreme high water conditions go back until you find the carp rolling. Fish outside those active rough fish,in some instances the action of the carp pushes the baitfih out were the bass lay in wait.
You know... we went to the back of the creek we were fishing, beautiful spot, creek channel went on back, the Carp were rolling big time, fished the lead in trees/bushes to the creek channel, NOTHING, but was it nice and calm.... 1 problem, no fish. These trees etc were in 10 foot of water. You would have thought fish would be everywhere. It did feel good to wet a line. Unfortunately Mother Nature had to bring 20-30 mph wind with tornados possible so we cut the trip short and headed home.
Gas bill - $200.00 from Lex
Hotel bill - 110.00
Hookset'n - priceless
With high water you have to sometimes go back were the water meets the bank. At ky lake try to find were the water meets grass especially crop fields. This occurs many times behind the tree line. Your boat interior almost all the time looks as though you've been chopping wood.
