You would get more replies at Bassboatcentral.com in the skeeter forum. I have a 88 Skeeter with a 150 XR4 - 25p Tempest plus - 6 inch jackplate and 3.75 below the pad and run around 66gps with just me and 3/4 tank of gas. Live wells empty.
I would start at 3 1/2 below the pad and watch your water pressure guage (above 12PSI at WOT) and work from there. Watch your rpms. I Know for my 89 Black max the max RPM is 5,500. I would think that the 175 is the same but I don't know. I also had a small lower unit that went out on my motor so swithed to the larger lower unit and that is why I can run a 25p tempest plus. I use to run a 24p laser II. When I changed to the tempest plus I could tell a world of difference in hole shot, mid range, and top end.
A prop can make a world of difference. If you have $500 laying around try the new furry prop from mercury. It is suppost to be the baddest prop on the market. - Have Fun.
