Possession Limit clarification?

Below is the clarification on posession limit from page five of the current fishing regs in KY.

"Q: How is a daily creel limit
different than a possession limit?
A: The daily creel limit is the
number of a particular sport fish
species you may keep in one day’s
fishing. A possession limit is the
maximum number of sport fish a
person may hold in the field after
two or more days of fishing."

We have been having some discussion about this at our Striper club meetings.

Question:

What is the definition and /or interpretation by fish and wildlife and the courts of "in the field"?

Obviously it means in your boat.

If you are fishing or camping multiple days, does it include in your truck at the ramp?

In your RV freezer at the campground?

In your freezer at your lake house.

Maybe Fish and Wildlife can chime in here and let us know.

That would be a good question to have answered. I'd hate to think I could spend money to go to Kentucky Lake to crappie fish fish for a week and catch a daily limit of fish for several days (it hasn't happened)
and then get fined for having too many in my possession when I leave.
Or even worse, get fined because I have too many in my freezer at the house.

When I asked last year about possession limits I was told the Posession limit included ALL of what you had caught during that trip. Meaning, if you went down for a week to KY and caught a limit day 1 and a limit day 2, that is your POSSESSION limit.....So, Day 3, if you caught a limit, and kept them, you could be in a world of HURT.....

AND from my understanding, it doesn't matter how you keep them.......FROZEN, on a stringer, in the cooler.......and for that matter, in your belly.......the CO told me that they could even check your garbage, etc, etc, for evidence of overlimit..........

This limit is for one person...correct? So if you are fishing with someone else or a couple other guys you can 2-3x these numbers.

Geo~ I'm pretty sure the DNR puts on the latex gloves as soon as you hit the ramp.....lol. No respect and NO lube for you buddy. Mr. I do jetski donuts while my fishing partner fetches the truck/trailer. Also, tight leather chain vests and pants are not approved team outfits for tournaments...lol. I don't know of a rule that is not per person.

Of course this is impossible to police. I think it is a case where the rules are in place and people are expected to abide by them even though it is almost impossible to check.

What if you live right by the lake, and liked to keep crappie in the freezer for one or two big fish frys a year? Does the possession limit only count from lake to house? Are all rules off once you get home?

Yes. As long as a trip ends. Once you reach your permanent home your trip is over.

They way I understand it is in your freezer the count starts over.

Well then, I have a freezer real close to Ky lake if anyone ever has too many. LOL. I will never turn down some crappie fillets.

The possession limit is intended to address the situation where an angler fishes overnight and, technically, is fishing in two different days once the clock passes midnight. In that case, the next morning he can have two limits in his possession because he has just finished fishing during two different calendar days.
