    Night Fishing???

I have only been night fishing a few times when I was younger. However, I am going to do some night fishing the next month or so, and on into the summer. I know some of you are very familiar with fishing at night. Any suggestions or help??? Lures, techniques, places on lakes that produce at night or whatever. Thanks in advance.

    Re: Night Fishing???

I fish basically 3 lures at night on KY: spinner, jig, and tube. If you night fish this time of year the fish are more in the bays (back of the bays for that matter). Summer they are more out on main lake points and bars as well as the outer points on the bays. Typical spots - points, drop-offs, rocks -- it isn't really all that different than fishing during the day. But during the summer I think it is your best chance to touch a really big fish - especially a brown one. Watch out - it can be addictive. I only wish I was closer to fish more often.

from the end of may until its to cold to night fish thats all i do... i like throwin hair jigs, jigs, and believe it or not i like throwing baby brush hogs and or centipedes. texas rigged.... thats all i usually throw at night is them two lures in avacado, watermelon red, and rootbeer pepper green.. i sometimes get better fish on the water melon red versus the rootbeer but the bites are usually fewer.. i like using black lights and get on chunk rock banks that have deep water... i usually set in about 30 foot of water and cast to the bank and sometimes on the full moons the fish will be in the shadows and sometimes if u dont cast right on the bank u arent going to get a bite....... oh yeah and take plenty of bugspray....

Short arm spinnerbugs with big thumper hammered colorado blades. Color blacks, blues, purples anything dark. 10 inch worms dark in color, jigs with rattles dark in color. If none of these get you bit go home and crawl in bed and go to sleep.

All these guys have offered the best tips possible, but I'll let you all in on a new item I found at BPS...It's their new bug repel wrist band...I swear it's the best thing out since sliced bread was invented. The good thing about them is that they will last a long time and only one person on the boat has to wear one. The area of coverage is awesome and you don't have to worry about your whole body smellin like bug spray or getting the stuff on your hands. After you get off the water put the wrist band in a zip lock baggy and use it over and over for something like 120 hours worth of use as long as you store it properly after each use. I've still got my original one from last year and it's still potent as heck when I checked it for the upcoming season.

I don't have the wrist band and don't worry about my "Body" smelling but I do have a cheap answer for the bug spray or sunscreen to keep it off your hands upon applying. I carry a box of ziplog sandwhich bags in my boat to which I slip my hand inside one before applying the spray or screen. Put the screen or spray on the baggie then apply accordingly. A little combersome to use and not exactly the most appeling way to apply but when done, in the trash bag they go and nothing on your hands. No oily sensation or smell on your hands that will be transferred to your baits. Every little thing helps, at least that is what I tell myself.

If your gonna fish plastic at night, you need at least one good black light and spool with line accordingly.

Take at least 2 more flashlights than you need.

A light that is super light weight and will clip on the bill of your cap is very usefull.

I spend all summer on shakey head, tube baits, and crank baits. Once we hit June 1, I almost fish exclusively at night. Having the ski boats off the water makes the fishing experience so much more enjoyable to me.
