Well, take him to dale hollow. Fishing is good right now and you might connect with a good one! Best place I know. Fished dale hollow since I was little and I love this lake!

I have a 13 year old cousin who is eat up with fishing. Instead of watching cartoons on saturday mornings the kid is watching fishing. His dad doesn't fish so I try and take him whenever I can (which isn't often enough). He was been wanting to catch a good small mouth the worst. Here's the problem, I don't know how or where to take him to do so. When I get to go to the lake it's usually for Crappie, Striper, or Walleye. The only way I have fished specifiacally for small mouth is when I wade creeks and he is just too short for that. If any of you could offer any advice or suggestions for locations I would really appreciate it. I have several "honey hole" locations on Cumberland (Crappie, Walleye, and Stripers) that I would gladly trade for some help. I plan on taking him in a couple weeks around his birthday and could really use some help. Thanks.

I agree with the previous comment. Can't beat Dale Hollow.
Been to Dale just once in Feb 08 and struck out but that time of year can be like that. My fishing buddy landed 1 that went a little over 4 lbs! Pretty exciting when your use to Elkhorn smallies. Feel in love with the place though. Planning on another trip soon.
Elkhorn Creek is by far the best smallmouth creek in this state! I'll back that up all day long. If you can get access to a canoe that would be my advise. Nothing like catching 10 to 20 smallmouth on ultra lite! True they aren't huge fish in the creek but I and some buddies have landed a couple 3 lbs!
rebel crawl baits is all you will need! they love them!
Fish Hard!
Dale Hollow...my buddy had around 50 smallies in 2 -1/2 days this past weekend..one right at 6 lb's..several over 4 lbs...its on fire right now
If you're already familiar with Cumberland, you don't need to look any further. There's tons of smallies in the big C. Tie on a plastic jerk bait and hit the points and bluffs.
I had planned on Cumberland. Should I go to the Upper end, Lower end, Creeks? Any advice is appreciated otherwise its going to be a shot in the dark.
Try White Oak and Fishin Creek.
I figured I didn't knwo anywhere to take him for a quality smallmouth bite so I took him to Cedar Creek Sunday morning for some big Greenies. I took him to some of my honey holes. Got to my last spot and on his second cast a HUGE LM busted his crank bait. I am guessing it would have went close to 7.5. It jumped twice and on the 2nd jump it kicked the bait. He was absolutely devistated.I made 2 more casts and ended up landing one that went 6lbs 2 oz on my digital scale. He was heartbroken to see me release that one. He still doesn't understand why I didn't mount that one. After he lost that fish he was about in tears. I ended up taking him to my "Red Ear" spot and we limited out at about dusk. I guess it was a pretty good trip and he will always remember the one that got away.
Hey Bray, sorry about your kuz's luck. Go to sondrarankin.com and in the upper left hand corner click on the pic below where it says (the one that go away). It got my 13 year old son tournament fishin with me and he can't wait to go back to her home town lake, KY lake so we might run into her. Good luck and go to Dale.
