    Gas Savings/Bolt On Equipment

I have a 97 Chevy, 5.7 liter, 4-wheel drive and like everyone else, would like to get the most bang for the buck when it comes to gas mileage. I've seen various air filters that look huge with big old "ducts" leading to them that are approximately 4" in diameter. Has anyone here bolted one of these products on a similar truck and if you have did you notice a difference in mileage?

Any other bolt ons available? I suppose dual exhaust helps but in the past I never could tell much of a difference on my previous vehicles, of course too way back then I didn't run duals for gas mileage purposes either, lol...

nothing you bolt on is ganna make a big enough difference, keep oil, filters changed tires aired up will gain more than anything, with the computer controlled vehicles it's gonna burn what it burns.
i have found with my f150 where i manged 10 towing and 13hgway i now set my cruise to run right at 2000 rpm about 68mph and i get 16.4 hghwy and going to rough last week i got 12.4..slowing down helps more than anything just like a boat find the spot where it works the least.

Folks save more gas by simply keeping the foot off the gas pedal. Go slower. Instead of driving 85 slow down to 65 MPH. Air up the tires to keep them inflated property.

Don't accelerate fast when you see the light down the road changing to red.

Driving slower will save more gas and do it without any added expenses.

Honda has a new Fuel Cell Powered car coming out in 2008. It's going to be leased to people in California first. They will have home filling stations that will be able to use solar energy to make hydrogen gas for the fuel cells.

This technology is being used to power enemy submarines right now in the Oceans around the world.

The Germans are leaders in the Fuel cell powered subs. I think that Sweden has them too. The Chinese are going to be buying these along with Iran and other countries that are not always friendly with the USA.

If they are reliable enough to use at 1000 ft below the surface of the Ocean and to drive a submarine hundreds of miles under the ocean then they would easily work on our automobiles on dry land.

All that's needed is for a President to show leadership with the congress to make it happen. All they have to do is produce these cars and drop gasoline engines and setup a fueling system throughout the USA.

Best thing is that they run on water and only exhaust water vapor. Water is split into oxygen and hydrogen and then recombined to make electricity.

Check out the Honda web site and see for your self.

Or just google "fuel cell" and see what's going on.

We need leaders that will stand up to the Oil Companies and OPEC and tell them to go to He((>

hey moose you have to figure most of working class folks can't just go out and drop a ton of dough on a new "friendly" car to replace our ol heaps,we figure i "hey i can buy alot of gas for the price of a new car" since my heap is paid for,now also just like the e gas blends, you're paying for a new vehicle, payments since i don't have "cash" to buy outright plus they aren't going to sell us any fuel cheap because no average joe is gonna be able to produce and the gov. is still gonna tax the crap out of it.they are exploiting our weakness..anyway it will take along time to switch to any alternative to make a diffence,if even does then..

I hear ya. They say it takes money to make money. Ain't that the truth!

That's why I am hoping that the price of the hydrogen fuel celled cars won't cost us an arm and a leg like the gasoline cars do now.

That ten speed bike is looking better all the time.

Until then I suggest we all overinflate the tires on the vehicle and squeeze a few more mpg out of old bessy.

    Re: Gas Savings/Bolt On Equipment

    Edit:
OK I went to Platts and read what Hugo was saying.

I too wonder what would have happened if we had not invaded Iraq. I do know that we would have not used all that oil to fund the military invasion. I mean it took a lot of oil to get all those people and all that equipment across the ocean from the USA to Iraq. And I am sure that it's taking a lot of oil to support all the troops and all the tanks and planes and ships that are being used for the last 7 years.

But what I would like to know now, is where is the Iraqi Oil going. Who's buying it now and where is that money going? We were told that Iraqi Oil would pay for the War in Iraq. Does anyone else remember the VP telling us that when they are trying to talk the Congress into going to war with Saddam. And where are the WMD at? I think that someone is getting very rich selling the Iraqi Oil. After all they are said to have 25% of the Worlds PROVEN OIL Reserves.

I wonder what the effects of the USA pulling out of Iraq would be on Saudi Security. Would the Saudis like to have Iran invading them? That is something they should think long and hard about.

We could easily take out the oil fields in Venezuela if we chose to do so. Hugo should remember that happened to the Dictator in Panama! He might end up in the same Jail cell.

Although from his point of View I can understand where he is coming from.. not that I agree with anything he says.

I think that the USA should do what's required to keep this country's quality of life safe. But why lie about that? That's my problem. Everyone can see what's going on.

We invaded Iraq for their oil but the sad part is that Cheney kept it for himself and didn't use it for all Americans. That's the sad truth. Why else would oil jump to 130 dollars per barrel from 22 a barrel?
