    Where would you go?

Me and buddy of mine and I are gonna try to catch a few on Wednesday. We live in Louisville, but are both pretty new to the area, so don't know much about the area lakes. He's been out to Taylorsville a couple of times since moving here, and this will be my first chance to wet a lure since moving to KY. He mentioned heading down to Rough River, but before we do, I thought I'd ask you guys where you'd go if you were us.
We're hoping to get into some bass.
Thanks in advance for any help.

    Re: Where would you go?

I've been fishing Taylorsville for years and still can't seem to catch many keepers there. I know others here will disagree because I see their posts about the weigh ins. Here's my two cents. Drive to Cedar Creek, it's a smaller lake but I think your chance of catching some quality fish are better than T-ville. Having said that, I will be fishing Taylorsville more than Cedar Creek this year myself but only because of the gas prices. I live in Louisville also, TVille is about 30 mins away from my house, Cedar is a good 90 mins... Good Luck...

i too would head to cedar creek just because its not hard at all to run up on a couple fish and you can usually catch some goodens too...but be prepared to fish trees because thats mostly all this lake consists of deep and shallow...good luck

Get an Indiana fishing license, and head down to the Hoosier Nat.......About 45 minutes from Louisville. They are on FIRE.........I love pumpinseed/firetail lizards there.

    Also jigs, and soft jerkbaits.......

Or head up to Salem, In........also 45 minutes and hit John Hay. Stop by the Police station on the square to get a 10 buck lake permit......It has some MONSTER bass......I've caught lots of 5's out of there.

Great WeekDay lakes, but like everywhere else........they get hammered on the weekends.

Hell, DEAM Lake, in Southern Indiana holds some decent bass also.......and a bonus is the 12" redear are going on the nest and you can HAMMER them also.

    Later,

    Geo

I assume that you are fishing from a boat. I will agree that Cedar Creek has produced some good fish for me in the past. However I have always done very well on Rough as well. Rough is a really productive lake and you can generally count on catching several fish from 13 to 17 inches.

Go to the hottest lake going right now IMHO, Nolin River Lake. Same distance as Rough River Lake and it's not 10 over summer pool. Try a Shad Rap in a shad color and you'll catch at least 7 different types of fish in a day's fishing at Nolin.

    Re: Where would you go?

For Louisville Hardy Lake is my take on Where to go. With Gas Prices the way they are you have great lake close. I have fished several tourneys and won one recently with an 11lb bag in a three hour tourney where I culled 9 fish. We had one in the 4lb range and another team had big bass of 5 plus. I recently heard a rumor of a 9lb fish caught ( but still have not seen photos). I have many days on Hardy of 40 plus bass between 13" to 17". It has muskie ( rare) stripes and redear as well.

    Re: Where would you go?

I would just run up the street to the Ohio River and put in at Cox's Park. The fishing is very tough, but if you catch a couple, you'll feel like you've really done something! There's plenty to explore and it's a really tough puzzle to put together, but when you do get it together it's pretty awesome!

If you really want a challenge, that's where I would go.

    Re: Where would you go?

In the end, $4 gas kept us close to home...decided to just run over to Taylorsville.
Didn't catch sqat. In fact, we only had one bite all day - on a gitzit off a point.
With gas prices what they are, I imagine our fishing will probably be limited to Taylorsville most of the summer, so if anyone can shed any light on how to fish it, we'd greatly appreciate it.
Water seemed pretty cloudy/milky from what I saw. Is that typical or just from the rain we got last night?

It usually does seem to be more stained than other lakes around. I wish I could help you more about the fishing. I can usually catch a few dinks but for me keepers are few and far between there. At other lakes, I can do better so I know it's not just me.
