Lake Barkley Info

I am fishing Lake Barkely this weekend and wondering if anyone had any reports / info on the lake around the 68 bridge? I just bought my first boat last October and seem to be struggling a bit. I realize it takes time, time, time but it is always nice to have a few mentors.
Are the fish at post spawn yet? I know that the water for the most part is normaly stained to muddy (or so I hear). Any Info would be great!!

Guess there is no one that fishes on Barkley that wants to reveal the conditions or maybe it is that competitive.....I'm just fishing for the "LOVE" of being on the water with my "soon to be wife" and my son. I will update our trip when we return. Happy fishing and will hope to see everyone at Nolin on the 14th

I have not been down in a few weeks, but from what i hear most of the bass are in the post spawn phase now. I am sure if you hit some of the deep points and channel banks you can pick up some fish.

Check out Dave Stewarts fishin report. He keeps it up to date and it is very informative as to what the fish are doing and what they are hitting.

Re: Lake Barkley Info

secrets, secrets, secrets..... In all honesty barkley has been good, although I rarely ever fish that far down south on it. I think the majority of the fish should be moving a little deeper. The warm weather has raised the temps over the last week, and fish should be on a post-spawn or early summer pattern. You may be able to luck into a few good ones on top water early and very late in the day. But other than that I would concentratel on channel points and creek channel banks with some structure on them. I know the ledges can be frustrating, I am just learning to find and fish them, but they can be fun and rewarding as well. Check out Dave's report, but I would guess that a carolina rig on the deeper drops, maybe with a baby brush hog, maybe some dt 16's in in bluegill and parrot, and a 1/2oz + jig in green pumpkin with some other accent colors will produce. Dave doesn't BS in his report, whatever is in there has been producing.

Re: Lake Barkley Info

I can second what Col Forbin said on patterns. I fished Barkley some last week end and caught several smaller fish shallow on surface baits Saturday morning as rain was approaching but could not duplicate Saturday evening or Sunday morning. I didn't not catch many "out" but the ones I did find were scattered and in the outer parts of the bays. I did best on soft plastics on drop offs. Even the fish I caught shallow I didn't feel were obvious spawners (thin, no bloody tails) so they may have just moved up for the shad. The water temp jumped a bunch from first thing Saturday to Sunday with the warmer temperatures and sunshine in the afternoons.
