    Kentucky and Barkley conditions

Ill be down campin in the land between the lakes the next two weeks. I just wanted to get a heads up on what the bass were up to and what the conditions were like lately. Have they moved out to deep stucture yet or are shad and bluegill spawns still keepin them shallow? Anything anyone knows would help me out. I appreciate it.

Thumbs up Re: Kentucky and Barkley conditions

We were down on Friday and Saturday. Friday was slow, but we were late getting there. We caught several short ones and one @ 3 lbs. Fished Saturday and had 3 in the boat @ 8.8 lb with the biggist pushing 6 lb. These were all caught before 7am off the banks on secondary points.

God turned the heat and wind on and the fish off around 9 or so and there were boats sitting all over the ledges in the channels, you could bearly get through Little River without going around them. Its to bad that I don't know how to fish the ledges very well yet. Tried to fish the main lake channel ledges but the lake was so rough that could not keep the water from coming in the boat .

Some of the guys in the ALS tournament were able to pull in 8 - 10 lb'ers.

Heat was crazy both days. Good Luck

Well I fished KY Wed-Fri, they were everwhere, deep, shallow, main lake points mouths of creeks big and small, and on ledges. My biggest was on the bank early under a big log on the bank, half way back of the creek. If I had it to over again I would have fished alot slower started in the back of a small creeks and worked my way out to the point and fished the mouth. If that worked I would run to the next creek and repeat the pattern, if it didn't get the wet weather gear out and your drift socks also study your map because if your going to be out on the main lake you need a game plan. I was rough. Does any have an extra long trolling moter for sale?

Would you say that again...am I reading that someone caught a lot of 8 to 10 lb fish in a tournament here this weekend or they caught eight 10lb fish?

Just Fished 3 days... We wasted so much time shallow... on the last day we committed to fishing deeper no bank stuff except in the morning of course.
then it was strictly Carolina rigs and DD-22 we had 9 keepers and 13 lbs
and caught plenty of smaller fish in between. there no real mystery to a carolina rig if it feels slick leave... if it feels crunchy give it 20 min then move.
    good luck Aron.

There were several 8 lb to 10 lb fish. Not sure how many. I saw one that was in the "dead cooler" that had to have been 10 lb. I'm sure he was a ledge fish.

Don't know where that ALS tourney was but the biggest fish I've seen reported for any tourney this weekend was a little over 6 lb. There wasn't anything over 10 caught this spring. Not calling you a liar but I would be shocked to see a single fish over 8 lbs weighed in this time of year.

Watched a couple of tourneys with all the big dogs from the Lake area and the biggest bags were 22-23 lbs and big bass was just over 6 lbs.

The ledges are where the bites are coming from.

    Re: Kentucky and Barkley conditions

Thanks for the clarification. What was the winning weight for the ALS tourney? I just talked to one of my friends and he had an 8 yesterday evening on Ky. That is one big fish for this time of year. It will be interesting to see how the Elite guys do this week. I am getting a lot of ledge fish but like said above...numbers of short fish and some 3, 4, 5 and occassional 6.

Did you see that fish on a scale or just in the cooler? I have fished a bunch of tournaments on the big lakes over the years and have never seen a tourny were several 8 to 10 pounders have been caught and weighed.

Not trying to call you out or anything like that but fish that big are hard to come by this time of year let alone "Several"

In fact I have never seen a 10 in any tournament be it BFL, FLW or BASS. There have been 10+ fish caught down there but it is almost always in early spring or late winter when a fish that big gets caught.

The biggest I have heard of in a tourny in past years is just over 9 and it was a March event.

Red face Re: Kentucky and Barkley conditions

Sorry guys. Maybe I'm not a good judge of size since I haven't been at this for very long but we had 3 @ 8.8 lbs and the biggest was around 5lbs (happen to be the biggest bass I have ever caught). The fish that I saw looked to be twice the size of mine. Maybe I just was excited.. I'm new to the tournament scene so I apologize for my misjudgment.

The cooler was one of those blue and white ones that hold a couple cases of drinks and it stretched from one end to the other and appeared to be very "black" around the mouth and head area. I was told, that It more than likely was a DEEP ledge fish off the main channel.

Again, we didn't stay for the final results but just hung around for all the fish to be weighed and will make sure that I have all my facts straight before I post in the future. Anyone that has the final results or a link to the results for the ALS would be great!!

Sorry again just trying to learn the basics of Tournament Fishing.
