drifting/trolling for striper on Lake Cumberland

    Hey everyone...

Just needing some advice on where to fish while drifting/trolling for stripers w/live bait on lake cumberland...i have the proper electronics for the job and have read in-depth 'how-to's' on how to fish w/planer boards and balloons. Just was needing some advice on where the fish are usually holding as far as depth and general location in the lake. I'm new to this type of fishing for striper but i have fished for stripers about every other way you can think of in the past. If you can, just pretty much tell me some basics of where to fish and what creeks are productive and what depths are productive during the summertime....

    Thanks Alot

Right now you will be fishing the main lake flats and as the summer goes on you will move out over the channels. I have not been down there but there is a guide i know that really helps me out. His website is stripertime.com and his name is Mark Wasiloski. He is a super guy and always willing to help. I have not actually fished with him in 8 years or more and he still helps me every time i'm down there. I would start by checking out his website because he updates it pretty much weekly and tells general areas he is fishing and depths. Good luck and let us know how you do if you need any more help just let me know.

Be careful....don't give up on the creeks just yet. There are some creeks that are still holding a lot of big fish mid way back. I know it sounds crazy this time of year, but the bigger fish are still there.

I like the flats very early in the morning, set your ballons about 20 ft to start, then I switch closer to the river channel and maybe go 5 ft deeper. Summer is not striper time for me, too many fish are killed because of the water temp, and stress.I think that in july august and sept they should restrict it to two fish kept, and quit, no matter the size, but the charter guys would complain like crazy.Several yrs ago fishing bass near otter creek, counted at least 10 floaters, all under 24 inches, thats a waste of a great resource.

i agree with the hot water striper fishing. That is why i start fishing for them in november usually and fish up to may or so and then quit and fish for bass or catfish or even stripers in the river where i can release them with no problem. I would like to see that happen with the 2 fish and quit but i doubt we will ever see it. Seems like a waste of a good resource to me too. I don't actually think the guides would mind but it would be hard to keep clients happy.

I'm pretty sure if the guide explained the two fish rule, most clients would gladly accept it, get lucky early, fish for something else. The guides themselves probably dont like to see those floaters, because these are put and take fish, no spawn, and with budget cuts, there may be fwewer of them in the next few years. But they did take a step in the right direction about the size and quota.
