Larry,
It's trips like those that make you appreciate the better ones.Hey, gas prices can go up to $10 a gallon and there will always be knuckleheads on the water....can't put a price on stupid.

First trip yesterday, before sunrise, fished a few of my favorite weed beds for gills and crackers, caught a few dink crappies, and a few gills worth keeping. At 0830, the water skiers started, so it ws back home to bed. In my old muddled mind a plan was hatched. I'll go tonight, anchor, put out my subermissable lights, and knock the snot out of some slabs!!!To quote Yogi Bera" should have stood in bed". This weed bed is close to the boat lanes.Well there were no water skiers, no jet skiers, but the rec boaters were out in force, plus the bassers. So it was waves, waves, and more waves. But that wasn't the problem, it was the stupid current, there is a current on dale, and normally it runs to the west, not last night. My port side bobbers went under the boat, so switched to starboard, a few minutes later, under boat. The crappies were there, small black nosed ones, most of them about 8 inches long. Said the heck with bobbers, switched to jigs.I do a lot of trout fishing with jigs, and I dremel the barbs down, since I dont keep them, who cares if they shake off. That was the box in the boat. But in my haste to slay the slabs, left my head light in the truck, tying small jigs, with a pen light in your mouth, on light mono is a feat! did get two keepers, lost a lot hits, no barb, and then it happened, got a small crappie into the boat and some students in students in stupiity[ must have been in the top of their class" come roaring by me, my nav lights were on,they just didn't give a spit, and the hook came loose right into the joint of my little finger, thank GOD it was barbless but it did smart. The other thing I left in the truck safely loacked was my pistol, if I would have had it, well who knows a good jury would have turned me loose.I like to fish at night, still will, but anchoring in a much more protected place on dale,I never had to deal with these kind of morons on cumberland at night, who says thegas prices are causing less boaters? So next week, at night, where ever, I will be there, but not anchored, and probably not armed.

You're right, regardless of the price rec boaters will be rec boaters, and us fisher types will still be out thereBut to me water is only good for three things.1 fishing 2 coffee 3 beer, any other use is just plain wastefull. But after many years of observation, water does another thing, it brings out dumb.I know from experience.
This reminds me of W.C. Fields' explanation of why he didn't drink water. I can't post it here, but I always thought it was hilarious.

I hate to hear about the idiots on Dale...but they will go away in a couple of more months. But too, someone told me that Dale fishing stinks after Memorial Day. Doesn't matter to me anyway, I'm a fall, winter and spring fisherman for the most part. But...I have to admit, when you're out there on the lake at night, and you don't hardly see a soul, and the moon is shining across the water, it is definitely a slice of heaven in my own opinion. Such was the case for me last week on Monday night at Cumberland. All we did was trolled out of Indian Creek, around the dam and back in to Indian Creek before calling it a night about 2:00 am. We didn't catch a thing, didn't even get a bite, but it didn't really matter because the weather was beautiful that night.
Went to Cedar Creek last night caught a couple before sundown. Missed a few I thought might have been a picture op. As night fell I went to a spot I thought would produce well but the banks were lined with people fishing. I loved it. Even though a good spot may have been crowded I was on the water fishing, these people were fishing the weather was great. The love of the sport has fallen.
Now on the other hand there are that 10% that make my blood boil. Jet ski people. I could be 50 feet in a cove when all of a sudden that blur comes rolling towards me. Torpedos is what we need.
let me tell you about morons . me and the wife was fishing cumberland this weekend and we were on a point that ran out shallow and had a bouy on it . isaw some minnows jumping around the bouy so i cast to the bouy which is about 30 yards a head of me and 2 boats that are sitting idle to my left fire up and idle between me and the bouy and across my line .yep you guessed it they had ohio stickers on there boats.
WTF?
You saying Ohio boaters are bad? Better turn that mirror around haas!
the "ohio navy" has built its own reputation. no need to turn a mirror around to see that. don't take it personal...unless you're part of the problem.
but believe me, there are plenty of knuckleheads that don't respect others on the water that were born right here in kentucky. although, most of them do have buckeyes in their family....
Oh I ain't takin' it personal for sure because I can guarantee I am NOT part of the problem.
Most of the "knuckleheads" I see are local yocals.
At least Ohio has a Navy! LOL
So stay home and protect OHIO! We'll get by with out your gracious help. or go to Indiana.
So sorry to inform you that I'll be down this weekend to make sure you all behave! LOL
