Lake Manitou is scheduled to open for all boats on Saturday, June 28th, according to an article in today's Pharos Tribune in Logansport. Should be some pretty hot bass fishing, since these fish have not been hammered by lures for about two years.![]()

I have a friend that lives on Manitou and he said there are NO WEEDS whatsoever... He said the lake association had NO interest in the fishing.. they just wanted to make it easier to get their ski jets and pleasure boats away from the bank. Supposedly.. there were HUGE numbers of bass and other fish floating belly-up after the weeds were sprayed.. SAD...SAD...SAD..
He also said many of the property owners were AGAINST opening the lake back up to boaters..especially tournament anglers.
Manitou has ALWAYS been one of my favorite lakes and I always enjoyed fishing there but I DO expect some friction between local people and visitors.

I like Manitou too! It's funny how the town chamber of commerce is trying to attract people to the town but the lake association is trying to keep people out of the main attraction. I wish these people would realize that they owned the bank and their dock but not the water. That is a problem with many of these northern lakes. Probably one the biggest reason why southern impoundments get hammer to the point of peoples complaining about how bad they hoover.
There aren't dead fish floating everywhere. There was a shad kill this winter. Maybe that's what you heard.
