    Tough fishing on the C-River

This weekend was tough for us on the CR. Went down on Sunday afternoon and fished till dark...caught 7 all day! Of course we could only navigate a two mile stretch due to low water and lack of desire to push/pull the boat over the riffles. We threw everything we had at them and got little in return.

Spoke to several who were down there and they were having the same experience. Looks like until they turn at least one generator on we are going to have some slow times!

Unless someone has had a different experience in the past few days and wants to let me in on their secret!

I could be wrong but it would be my guess that the closer to the dam you are the at this time of year the better your luck will be, due to cooler water, etc...especially since the low lake level conditions.

Were you fly fishing or using spinning gear?

The water temp is a major concern. I read a post last week where it was 69 degrees at Burkesville. From my understanding, 65 degrees is the "boiling point" for browns. Prior to dam construction I never saw 65 degree water fishing as far south as Celina. I've only been on the river once this year (June) and the fishing was as slow as I've ever seen it. I striper fish and we pulled jacks for 2 12+ hour days without a single swirl. It will be interesting to see how the river evolves over the next couple years. I'm seeing more skip jack than ever and I think they'll take the place of trout in the lower river. Not sure why the stripes aren't close behind or maybe they are and no one is talking...not that they ever do...

You got to get closer to the dam. Last week before I fell on a slippery rock, had some fair action wading. Even had small blue gills following my small rapalas, a canoe would work, I may drive down to georgia, and retrieve my porte a bote, that thing will go through very shallow water. The temps below burkesville last week were in the low 70s, today the river looked like pea soup,We need about 5 inches of rain wayup in the head waters before they generate any water. I love to fish the river in the summer, but I think that thoswe days are gone till the lake level goes up.

I'VE EXPERIENCED SOME OF THE BEST FISHING ON THE C-RIVER THIS YEAR THAN I EVER HAVE BEFORE. THE LOW WATER CONDITIONS HAVE PUSHED THE TROUT UP TO THE WC DAM, CAUSING HUGE CONCENTRATIONS OF NICE FISH NEAR THE DAM. PLUS, WITH THE LOW WATER FLOWS, WADING IS EASY, AND THE FISH ARE VERY ACCESSIBLE. I ONLY FLY FISH FOR TROUT, SO I CAN ONLY SAY THAT FLY FISHING IS AWESOME RIGHT NOW! BH ANYTHING IS WORKING....WITH FISH AVERAGING IN THE SLOT LIMIT OR BIGGER! LOVE IT! I'M GOING BACK TOMORROW AND THURSDAY MORNING....CAN'T WAIT! HAGD!

Went to CR with Troutcrazy and one of Garrard County's finest trout fishermen today. We put in at the dam. We caught all we wanted, but none of any size. All were 10-12 inches. Did get into 4 real nice White Bass. We loaded up and went down to Helm's. Caught 8 or so. One was about 16". At least that's what Trout crazy says. I didn't get a good look at it. Looking forward to our next trip.
