Sympson Lake Bardstown to be closed to some fishing!

The Lady at the water treatment plant is trying to get the lake rules changed and is meeting with city council. She wants the lake closed 1 hour before sunset till 1 hour after sunrise, no skiing (which I don't mind) and no bank fishing! Why? I have not a clue. The lake is managed by KY Wildlife and owned by the city. Fishing and boat permits are sold. I will post the night of the next council meeting if anyone would like to voice their opinions. Please come help if you want to help stop these actions.

heck with that! Last year I spent $130 on a permit and couldn't fish it for 3 months because of low water. My old man was able to get a the senior pass starting this year or I wouldn't fish it again. I have caught a few 6 plus in there but it's not worth what they charge out of county residents. I'd rather fish T-ville any day than there. (or most places too)

That would be a shame. Are they trying to keep bank fisherman out of there at night? It is funny how things change from one year to the next. Last year they were talking about running out of water. I think they were down to a few months supply at one time. Now they are going to try to stop fishing. what is the point? Nelson county is outgrowing it's water supply and will either need to get a handle on the growth of the county or build new resources.
You can't drink or fish it if there is not water in it.

they had been looking at a couple of places to build a larger supply but i havn't heard anymore of it in the last year, you are right they are out growing the supply, wonder if they are gonna wait til it flat runs out to do anything, they are already pumping the beechfork river dry to try to keep up.
it's not just bank fishing at night they want stopped it's boats too.
really there isn't that much night traffic,i've fished 4 or 5 times virtually all night this year and never see another boat after midnight..i don't think, hope,it will happen..city gvmnt is too greedy,,heck if you live in the city we pay all county tax plus city taxes,my taxes were over 2 times as high as my cousins who lives out of city limits.mine was valued at 91,000 his is 175 with house 60x100 building,2 car garage and 100acres...they won't want to lose that permit money..and the thousands of hybreds they just stocked will go to waste..

Why target the night fishing? I don't really understand. There are many smaller lakes in kentucky that are used for water supply. That lake really does not get a lot of traffic anyway because of several things. First is the permit for out of county is pricey. Second is the cost of permit compared to months you can use it(because you cant launch a boat mid summer). Third is there is not enough parking. I can't tell you how many years I bought a permit (out of county) then show up without a spot to park and have to turn around and go home or drive on to somewhere else.
If your willing to spend the money for a permit, fight the parking and willing to launch your boat in a few inches of water then why would they care. Is fishing actually hurting the water supply? If it just trash then they need to target the people who are leaving trash. True fisherman are stewards of the land and water and would not leave their trash.

Guys I know there are some things wrong with the lake already...pricey permits, low water and bad parking but the fact that they are targeting good decent fishermen is what I have a problem with. I take my kids there, mostly fish at night, and respect all land and waters. They were looking for a patrolman for the lake in the newspaper and I called in for the position but nobody knew what I was talking about so that ball was dropped. The judge had told me they approved the project of digging out the end of the lake and bettering some parking so who knows what's up but I'll try to keep all informed about when the next council meeting is.

really if you think about it the parking fits the lake size, many more boats and it gets cowded..with the water dropping so you can't get in helps to keep the fishery good..i inquired about the patrol too they want some law enforcement experience..

i noticed a couple years ago there seemed to be alot of shad schooling up in the lake. the hybrids should help control the shad population. when did they stock the hybrids and how many? do you know if they are going to continue stocking them? any info will be appreciated!
