My 4 year old son Joshua has "caught" a few fish in his short lifetime. These have been ones that I casted initially and then set the hook and he reeled them in but them days are all over now. I took him to my Dad's farm in Wolfe County this morning for some fishing and 4 wheeling, sort of our last Father/Son outing before Surgery day. We took his Zebco 33 that I bought him on our trip out to Ky Lake back in May and one of my rods as well. Of course he had to get some "Worms" to fish with bobbers like "Mommy Does" as well. He started out Bobber Fishing for whatever and was not catching anything. I hooked a LM on the second cast with a spinnerbait but it got off, then hooked and let him land the next one which was a LM about 13" long or so. Nothing else was happening but he was a trooper and we fished another hour or so with no bites from anything. We went 4 wheelin for a bit and of course he has to go into the garage and check out my dad's "Hot Rod" as Joshua calls it. 1957 Chevrolet Bel Air 2 Door Hardtop all original down to the gas cap. Dad has won numerous car shows with this car including a big event at the Super Chevy show in Indy a few years back. After Joshua got his first love "Cars" out of his system it was back to fishing for us. Sun was pretty high by now and I swithed over to a T Rigged Lizzard and put a Creme Worm on for him, the kind that is pre rigged with 3 hooks and put a splitshot in front of it. He wanted to cast so we worked on it some and he was doing a lot better than he was doing at Ky Lake so I let him fling away. Maybe 4 cast into his venture and the rod loads up, he half jerks and starts cranking like a madman. My Dad is on his Back Porch that over looks the pond and he is watching as Joshua Cast-Hooks-Reels-Lands his first Complete fish catch, which turns out to be a 10" LM. He holds it up for the camera with his thumb firmly clinched in his mouth, then gives it a kiss and throws it back in the water. I forgot my camera but did stop and get one of those disposable kinds and have some good pictures, if they come out. Nothing like seeing your son catch his first, Proud Pappa here.
thats awesome! congrats
I bet you are a proud papa. Nothing like watching your kids catch fish. Good times...
My boy turned 2 in May and that was his 1st bass (in the avatar). Of course, I did the casting and set the hook, he did reel it in though. His attention span isn't exactly all there though because a minute later he was throwing rocks at a tree.
Thats great Elnut, if he keeps going there will be one fisherman in the family. Just kidding I think I was about 8 when I caught first fish by my self but I can take you to the lake and show you right where it was and what I caught it on.....jitter bug. That was about 54 years ago.
U know the J-dog likes to stick them 2. Just like the old man. Oh yeah!
Thats what it's all about! The smile and excitement on their face is priceless.
That is great!!! Many more to come I'm sure.![]()
thats great I can't wait until my grand daughter is at age to take her.
Way to Joshua, you'll be out fishing the old man in no time.
I too saw my oldest daughter (8 yrs old) catch her first fish this weekend. I took her Bluegill fishing to get her siked up on actually catching something and getting it in. She was a real go getter. She had a tough day but finally ended up catching 3 by herself . One bluegill, two tiny largemouth. She was gleaming like the sun. I finally heard the words that I have been waiting to hear so long. "Daddy when can we go fishing again." It's a great feeling. Once she gets totally hooked on this, maybe she'll branch out to bass fishing. Gotta start somewhere.
