Question Your take on Rough River bass fishing

What is your take on the bass fishing on Rough River? I live 30 minutes from there, but I just pass it by and go to Nolin. How is the winter bass fishing on Rough? I would like to maybe give it a try this month if I can get some good comments.

I like it and it has some big bass,i too fish Nolin alot but think Rough is just as good or better.Off my boat the biggest bass came from there but Nolin is real close with both being just over 6 and the big 1 was 6.39 and 6.35. Both from the back(lol) Terry Adolph

rough is one of my favorite lakes to fish my biggest came from there wich was a 5 pounder in the summer at night but have cought alot of three and 4 pounders out of there in the winter. it seems like you get more big bass in the winter then any other time. my buddy has cought a 7.3 pounder 2 years ago and a 6.7 pounder 2 weeks ago both in the winter. i would give it a shot if i was you.

IMO Rough is hard to beat in the fall. You can catch a lot of 3 and 4 pound fish. But I prefer Nolin in the spring months.

I think Rough has really diminshed the last 4 or 5 years, I think its being beat to death, I think there is a tourney about every day of the week there now, and before long its probaly going to be like Taylorsville, I hope not, but it has gotten bad the last couple of years. You used to be able to go there, and catch 10-12 nice bass a day, and these were good keeper bass, now it seems that you struggle just to catch a couple of good ones. Maybe I am just getting worse at fishing, and cant catch them anymore, but I dont fish there unless I have to. Just my two cents worth, but Nolin is a much better lake, and I just pass Rough on bye.

Fishing isn't as good as it used to be on Rough. I have had some amazing days during the spring and fall on Rough...but those days are gone. The last few years have been, well, ROUGH!!! There are still some good fish in there, but there is just too much pressure now. It's overfished.

I have to agree with the fishing pressure. But it's much the same for barren, rough and nolin. They are all highly pressured lakes to be so small. From the looks of many of the tournament weigh ins this year it looks like Nolin ranks highest out of all of them. There were several 20+ lbs limits brought in this year including a 29lb limit by none other than B&L.

I enjoy Rough, but I can't speak about winter, I only fish T-ville after November.
