rating 2008 fishing was it a good year?

2008 will go down as ok for me i did't get to go fishing as much this season alot of personnal things had kept me at bay. But this is how i did!

biggest LM appox 5 pds a few that wt 3to4 pds
biggest cat was only 15 pds thats a far cry 2007 i caught 1 that was 65 pds.
biggest hybrids 2 that wt approx 10 pds .
best day i had i caught 28 nice hybrids on the ohio river back in late may.

how was 2008 for yall ?

I'd say that about 85% of my fishing is done at the lower dam at Mcalpine.

The water level was just too low and slow this year.

2008 wasn't as good as 2007 but I did make a trip to New Orleans for red fish and got to go to Minnesota for some bass,crappie and such. Yearly trip to Barkley in the spring for crappie.

I quitired the end of Jan in 2008 so I did get to fish more often this year.

Going to Mcalpine tomorrow to see if the sauger are there. That's after I go and get a new starting battery for the Stratos.

It was a good year. Spent time on the water with good friends. Won some tourny's/money and caught some nice catfish on the Ohio as well.
Biggest Bass-approx.4-5lbs
Biggest Catfish-Blue Cat 34lbs
Biggest Carp-10-15lbs?? But it was great to catch
Caught a few FNF fish already and thats a blast!
Caught alot of bass in the Spring on topwater and that in itself made last year great.

The worst since I was in the service many, many years ago. Health, companions health, kept on the hospital tour most of the good fishing days.Low water on the cumberland river killed my trout fishing, arthritis kept me from those long steep treks up the ramps on cumberland.Only two good fish, lmb about 7+ and asmb about 6one stripe about 15.Old father time is starting to takes it toll.

This year I fished less then any year since I was about 6 years old. I got married in July, maybe that had something to do with it?

Over all I didnt do much bass fishing so I didnt catch any LMB or SMB to speak of.

Early in the year I had some awesome trips below McApline catching those saugar and awesome meals afterwards. In the spring I did very well with the hybrids catching some in the 12-15lb range.

My best year so far. I spent more time on the water this year than any other, and it paid off. Caught my personal best smallmouth (had a few close, but never officially weighed) this one was 6.4 in the first tournament of the year. Broke my personal best Largemouth 3 times this year. Finally got one close to 8, but still have not broken that 8 pound mark.


I am going to have to cherish the memories of this year on the water. I have twins coming in April, and doubt I will hit the water too much after that - But somehow I am doubting I will have time to sit around and miss it too much.

Had an alright year on bass but really good on everything else.
Several smallmouth between 4 and 5lb. A few good heavy sacks earlier in the year.
Had my best year on temperate bass. Huge days on whites and hybrids, including on afternoon at The Falls where I caught 23 hybrids in about three hours with no little ones and most nice. Had 8 over 5lb and three over 6lb, the rest 3 to 4lber's. So many nice whites I lost count. I litterally caught hundreds of nice whites this year. Thanks APB for my secret weapon.
Best Blue Cat out of the Ohio, 42.5 lb. Lots of others that had shoulders too but none bigger than this. Thanks Chuck, aka riverat12, ya da man bromine.
Best walleye success I've ever had while fishing for stripes at night at C-land.

Overall a decent year indeed. Also congatulations Col on the twins, awesome.

this year was definately the most i have fished by far....and i loved every second of it. really found the true joy in it...just being outside is the best part. i did alot more fishin than catchin, but i still managed a couple of good times.

caught a LM right at 6lbs at a local private resevoir (kinda cheatin, but still fun). also caught three this year from my favorite creek that between 4.25 and 5 lbs....two of them were in the spring and one was in the dead middle of july.

caught my biggest SM ever this year...it was 21 inches long and a beast. didnt have any scales...got it on a spook this past fall in the same creek.

don't fish for catfish and don't get to go the big pools often to fish for cats and stipers, but hopefully next year...........

Well it's been a pretty fair year,had a good year for blue's, largest was 79 1\2#s and was over 80 till he blew about a 4# buffalo out, then 60,58, 57 ,two 52's and a couple 50's. several in the 40's. The flat bite was off for me biggest I would guess at only around 30#. Sauger were great early this year with a couple 25 and 26in. Stripes, hybrid and whites, were all pretty good and like Mark said there were day's we just flat wore'em out. Large mouth, I also cheated in a farm pond earlier this year ,biggest around 4-4.5#. I'm going to have to get Mark to take me to the Big C to get my smallie. As far as landing some new friends it was good to. got to meet alot of good people on this board. John,fisheater, Jason, bandit1,Doug Onemorecast, Don, DJD, Steve ,Grumman,Chris, bigcat,Mike, Ruger454,Jason, JD7 Mike ,boatbum...and a few others, All of which I enjoyed talking to as well as fishing with.Oh and there is still 23 days left in 2008, so Gone fishin boy's...Call me Mark, got to tell you what happen last week...Chuck

Had a decent fishing year. Got to fish Barkley, Kentucky, Rough, Nolin, KY River and Barren each one time. Fished TVille, Mcneely, and Cedar Creek quite a bit. Mckneely just because it's five mins from my house and the $4 a gallon for gas we had. My 3 biggest came out of Cedar Creek.

I live about 10 min. from the Green River in Mammoth Cave Nat. Park. I have fished it a lot over the years but the past 2 years have not been as good due to low water. I did catch 1 musky about 34" long and 2 smaller. The cat fishing and bass were slow.

Barren River Lake is an awesome lake. Bass were ok but nothing over about 4lb. for me. The cat fishing was nice with a few god channels. Hybrid on Barren was good for me but I never got into the larger fish that I did last year. I did limit out on most nights that I fished for them.

I only fished Nolin River Lake about twice this year with short bass.

We had a trip to Cave Run where we had booked a trip and it rained an unreal amount during the trip with what I think they said the lake was rising about 4" per hr. No luck at all on that trip.

I did find a new fishing buddy who is as ready to go as I and we had many laughs. It was a good year so far.
