FNF dale hollow - is it worth it on KY license?

I finally have a day to get away and fish and with the weather being so cold the only two lakes that seem worth trying would be Cumberland or Dale Hollow and FNF seems the way to go. I haven't fished either in years but it seems that the Hollow may be preferred for FNF fishing. They are both a good drive from the 'ville but my question is it worth fishing the Hollow with only a KY license and having such limited waters? I don't believe there is a reciprocal agreement in effect anymore. Neither my dad or I have a TN license and I don't want to fool with one this late in the year. Or should we just stick with Cumberland?

You will be fine just fishing the Ky side.Been fishing that end for 3 weeks now and catching good numbers. All on a 1/2 jig PB&J with a twin tail pumpkin grub.Fish points with the channel swinging close by.Also the first and second points in the creeks.Good luck.

People catch fish all over Dale but for me, I spend 99% of my time in TN waters and catch bigger, better and more smallies than up in he Wolfe River / Ky waters. There is reciprical waters that can be fish by anyone with either TN or Ky liscense. Basically is is the North part of Sulphur Creek, North Part of Pusley Creek, all of Illwill Creek and all of the Wolfe River pretty much from Trooper Island east to the end of the lake. You can launch at Wisdom Dock just outside of Albany and be in the Recipro water. Again, just me but I have more structure, more grass beds, more black shale and just MORE water to fish in TN. My rule to anyone that has wanted to go down for a couple of days is why spend all the money on gas, food and lodging then hold back on a few bucks for a TN liscense and eliminate about 2/3 of the lake. I know they have 3 day and 7 day liscense if you need them. They will sell these at the marinas (if they are open) plus the One Stop in Celina. Last I checked you could not buy the TN liscense in Burkesville anywhere. Good Luck.

I would wait on the TN liscence. There's excellent fishing for smallmouth on the KY side of the lake. Get a good map and fish the points on the channel swings. Also fish anywhere you see a flat that drops off steep into the old river channel. If you really want to maximize your time get a good guide for your fist trip. You'll save money and time in the long run plus you'll learn the basics of fishing the fnf and where and when to use it in the future. That world record Smally was caught in KY.

I gotta agree with Elwood, TN seems to have more and better quality fish along with better structure, shale and grass. I would spring for the TN license for sure!

I appreciate all of the suggestions. I haven't talked with my dad yet but we will decide tomorrow which direction to head. As far as I am concerned just getting out for a day will be great no matter which lake or state.

You can get a Tennessee license online at the TWRA website. I fish more in Tenn. than I do in Ky myself.
