    ? for elwood

Elwood, was that you fishing at first island around 8 saturday morning? I was the one fishing out in the middle with 3 people in the boat when the boats went burning between us if it was you. I had every intention to stop and say something to you when we got done fishing out there but you escaped to quick. Just asking so I'll recognize you next time and I'll stop and chat a few.

That was me. I even said to you that I would be more courteous than the other 3 idiots that motored between us. I idled away plenty far enough before going on down the lake. Could have stayed because I did not do any better any other place. Never seen so many boats on Dale in my life in December. Where is my Tue, Wed or Thur with 30 degrees, sleet, rain, snow when I needed it. My brother in law said I would learn something new every day on the lake. I did Saturday and it was very simple, holiday weekend, Dale Hollow, December 70 degrees, I make sure I am no where near Dale or Ky Lake East in the springtime as it was Saturday. Hope you caught them all. Nice place you was fishing for I love that same area for early spring with 3/4 Luhr Jensen crankbaits and it is a deadly night bite spot with C Rig or T Rig with 10" Producto Paddletail Blueflake worms and big jigs. Stop and see me next time. I thought you was studying my boat pretty hard when you idled in to fish that area and for a second thought you was going to say something. I had 2 guys find me friday morning as we launched, 2 more friday night as we took out, and then 3 more saturday morning on the ramp putting in. My brother in law that was with me asked me if I knew EVERYBODY down there. I told him that if I ever sold my fatboy fishing boat then nobody would ever recognize me. By the way before you got to that spot, I had told him about it and the fact that the first time I found it was in the dark with no gps and my buddy Cliff landed a nice smallie on the first or second cast. We hit several spots that night fishing a ledge or hump pattern and it seemed that Cliff caught one on the first or second cast and I got nothing. He was joking that he loved this "Guide work" that I was doing for him, pull up find a spot, throw out a marker, back off cast, hook and land. Just glad that one of us did well that night and that night I was NETBOY. Hope to see you on the water again. Elnut

I've seen you post about the type of boat you have and how you sit down to fish so I sort of thought that was you then when you said something as you were leaving I knew it. I found that spot a while back and have never seen anyone fishing it before. I love how that spot lays out and I'm starting to figure out how the fish sit on it. We had 3 fish about rip the rods out of our hands stroking a jig in the grass and never hooked up. Usually they around the edges but every bite we had was buried deep in it saturday. Anyway now that I know what your boat looks like I'll stop and talk to you next time. By the way those 2 boats that blew through there were in the group that came down with us and they were just messing with us. We said something to them later about it and they were both watching us and said they didn't notice you all sitting on the other bank. Neither of them would have done that if they knew you were there.

I take back what I said about the IDIOTS blowing thru us for the first two since they knew you but I thought for sure they both saw me in plenty of time to avoid but if they didn't then I do appologize. The third boat still classifies as an IDIOT then for he had no reason. My guess is the first two that came thru were your buddies and the last was the moran. You probably know this but there are about 7 more spots very similar to what you was fishing within about 3 miles of that spot and all of them hold fish at certain times. Good pattern to run when they are there for you can put them in the boat on a tough day like Saturday. Wind will hamper fishing a few of these because they are so out in the open but you seemed to be handling the 8 footers ok. Try casting a Luhr Jensen 3/4 Hot Lips Trolling Series crankbait to one side then let out line as you trolling motor to the other side then crank like crazy and it will dig down just deep enough to dredge the top and they will hammer it in the early spring. you will have out about 40 yards of line as you are cranking and it will wear your forearm out but I put 4 fish all over 3lbs on that same spot doing this in about 10 cast back in late February. I saw some pro do this on a long point a couple of years ago on some show and it was the first time I tried it and it worked. Used it several times since and had some success.

I know where 4 of those spots like that are but we never got a bite at any of the others. We tried duplicating all of the bites that we got and never could. It was a strange day Saturday that's for sure.

Elwood, I saw you come into a little a little cove across the lake from big sulphur creek. Just down from Geiger Island. You came in and I was sitting on the point there at the mouth of the cove on the left. Tell me more about this spot. Whats your history in this little spot, or was you just searching? When you realized there were already 2 or 3 boats in there you turned right and rode down that channel wall and went on down toward Hendricks Creek. I know it had to have been you, I saw your boat at the lodge the night before. You talked to the guy that was with me, Louis.

THere was actually 4 boats total including you on the point. I found this spot last week and None of you was fishing the actual 20 yard stretch that I was going to fish but I don't pull in that tight to others to fish. We had 6 on that little spot last week plus got broke off 3 times. I was broke off by a 4 pounder when my leader broke, must have had a bad spot, retied everything, including cutting up about 6 inches of my fireline like I always do and the next cast I hooked one that I never saw and she broke me off ABOVE my bobber, broke my 8lb Fireline. Maybe a bad spot who knows. With the wind out of the south at Mach 10, that cut was full of boats all day long but I bet none of them know what I know and no offense I was not about to pull in and catch a few in front of 4 other boats because then the jig is up and many will know. that point you was fishing has given up fish in the past and I caught a couple off it the week before but that is not the spot that I was wanting to fish. That point is also fished my many with jigs and silver buddies so you may want to give that a try if you already had not. Put your boat in the river channel and cast on just that side. I was so mad by then at the parking lot on the water that we ran down past First Island to get away from the ramps and hopefully the traffic, which we did because we had many spots to ourselves but it did not matter fishing was horrible that day due to the high pressure. On the trailer by noon.

Yea, pressure was definately the cause. I'll be back. Many more days to come. Winter has just begun. We were on the trailer by 2:30. We fished mostly the obey arm. No good there either. With 50mph wind and high pressure off the charts, been better off on the couch eatin pop-corn that day..
