    Rubber vs Silicone Jig Skirts

What are some of the differences in the two? I've only been throwing jigs for 3 or 4 years and have always got the silicone ones. It seems like now the rubber skirts are making a comeback or maybe they never really left? I do see some companies putting both on the same jig. Anybody know the pros and cons?

Rubber is good for several reasons. rubber spreads out more so it can make a jig have a larger profile with less strands. In pre and post spawn a this can can get your arm broke. You can also add more strands and make the jig fall slower, rubber is more bouyant than silicone so it slows the fall. The downfalls are, in the summer the rubber will melt and make one heck of a mess in a tackle box and the colors are VERY limited. Now silicone. Silicone is has good bouyancy so it spreads out too, you can also take strands out and get a really fast fall which is great for stroking, ripping a jig through grass (silicone won't "stick" to the grass like rubber). It's also a little more durable than rubber so the skirt won't tear up as bad. The colors are almsot limitless. there you go.

Re: Rubber vs Silicone Jig Skirts

i have started to make my own jigs, and i orderd some rubber and some silicone. i had never had alot of luck on jigs, till i started throwing the berkley iks finesse jigs, they have both rubber and silicone on them and i have had good sucsess. so i bought the closest jig mold to there mold and i am going to start making jigs alot like theres. i will let you know how well mine work compared to the berkley jigs. they should be the same i hope since i can make them alot cheeper then the berkley they are $4.99 a jig. that adds up after you lose a few. i am making shaky heads to the ones just like the strike kings and they are also 4 something for 4 of them. it is amazing how much cheeper you can make the same baits for, and after you get it down and have some people help you it is not that hard to do.
