I was only joking earlier bone. Love the articles and the information involved. This article is the most relevant of the bunch but the one thing this article is missing is the discussion of cover. While fish in what I call "soup bowl" lakes fish will move deep after a front moves through, committed shallow fish don't always do the same. When I say committed fish I mean fish up to spawn as in the spring of the year or in some cases, up to feed up for the fall frenzy, both times of the year have the same general affect. Committed shallow fish, when caught in a cold front will immediately lock down on what cover they have available. In the event the lake has grass, they will hunker up under the thickest, nastiest stuff available (good day to punch mats). If docks and wood are all thats available, it can be easy pickens, find the biggest nastiest brush pile you can find, lay a shakey head in it and let it sit until you catch her. She will be there, and generally a good fish. The general overview of fish shutting down in cold fronts is not debatable. But the amount of distance a fish will move due to that front will suprise you if you can slow down enough to make them bite![]()
