Ohio River around the dams!!!!

Alright guys, the whites and hybrids aren't too far away. Question: Best place for whites and hybrids?
As for me, the best place I have ever gotten into hybrids is at the Barren River Lake tailwaters. As for whites, I haven't really gotten into any. I've caughten a few on accident at the CR, but that's about it. How about you all?
Ohio River around the dams!!!!
Fisherjoe hit nail on the head below the dams on the ohio. Check for water temps when it hits 45-50 you will start catching some and when the water hits 55 degrees game on atleast that is what happens for me. Dont think you have to fish up against the dam all the time depends on what the water level is and where the bait goes when that happens, thats fishing from the bank. Usually for me it starts in march and ends in first or second week of may. Then we get the bigger rods out and bigger baits out. All what im talking about is fishing from the bank.
Numbers wise, the best hybrid fishing I have done was on the Ohio, size wise I have caught some good ones 10+ at barren in the lake. The only white bass I have ever caught was on green down at the lower end of the lake between the state park and Emerald Ilse marina.
I usually start catching them when I absolutely can't stand to be in the house on my days off. More seriously I get em in the creeks that drain into the Ohio and Kentucky Rivers depending on water temp and the part of the creek, the action starts for me around the end of February, beginning of March. We haven't had a really cold winter like this for a while now, so unfortunately my money says the bite starts later this year.
Nolin lake is full of whites and when they are on the jump you will have a ball.I think summer is the best time too get them on the jump.Terry Adolph![]()
For the Hybrids......Rough river in April. Trolling shad raps on long points and down the creek channels.
Hybrids- barren , Ohio and rough in that order.
whites - Ohio in the spring and nolin in june and july when they are in the jumps
just my opinion and i know herrington and fishtrap are supposed to be good for the hybrids but i have never been so i dont know
Sounds good guys, next question....best bait to through for whites and hybrids?
The only luck I've had for hybrids at the tailwaters of Barren we were throwing live alewives under floats. For the whites, we accidently caught them on several different trout spinners and lures.
inline spinners. i ve caught more whites and hybrids on a super vibrex than anything else. i would recommend some sort of swivel.... they will twist your line.
For alot of the pools we fish we typically use jigs 90% of the time with a white shad body in 3-4 inch or chartuse but mostly white. We also use rattletrap, spoons, roostertails, I also see guys use chickenliver for them and do quite well also. If you look for plastics for this look at this place they have good prices on there plastics. the shads we use have the paddle on them, heres this place WWW.ACTION-PLASTICS.COM
I like Mepps and Panther Martins in gold and of course silver. Vibrix-Minnows are always a winner. I catch whites on accident on KY lake in early March on "deeper" brush piles (staging areas) on large live minnows.
