We have a group fishing/houseboat vacation scheduled out of grand rivers' green turtle bay may 2 thru 10. We have done this a few times before but ,with the exception of last may, always in the fall. We are somewhat familiar with the waters around the north end of the lbl area from demumbers bay to duncan bay. Have also caught crappie and black bass behind buzzard's rock on a few occasions.
We rent a 80' houseboat to use as a floating fish camp. We tow several 16'-20' aluminum modified jon utility boats with outboards (one has jet drive outboard) and foot ctrl trolling motors. Boats are rigged with bow fishing/night fishing lights,as well. We purchase ky nr licenses. We come with a wide range of tackle; from ultra lite to med/heavy. Prefer casting crank/stickbaits, soft baits, jigs; stop and go trolling, drifting or fishing live rigs at anchor. Prefer embayments, creek mouths, and shorelines. Can trailer boats below dams if advised.
We usually line fish from dawn to dusk, then breakout the heavy bowfishing equipment till nearly breakfast. Although last spring shot gar around the clock (peak of spawn).
Most of these in pisquah bay or bays close by. In the past have often moored in pisquah for the majority of the trip.
Last spring we caught hefty stringers of slab 'gills and redears, but no crappie. Caught a few nice largemouth, but no smallies. We shot boat loads of gar but found no other big roughfish or cats.
S-o-o-o, this year we would like to expand our horizons !
Looking for advice on where to fish for crappie, stripers, white bass/hybrids, black bass, and good numbers of big roughfish and cats for bowfishing ! Again this trip is may 2-10. Restocking tackle now, any advice appreciated here, as well.
Looking forward to hearing from all of you, "work hard; fish harder; sleep when you're dead !!
Bowfish sugar and duncan for gar there is a ton in there
