    smallmouth on barren

I'll fished the creeks for my hole life, feeding Barren, and they are full of smallmouth. I just started fishing the lake two years ago and have a lot to learn, that plan and clear. Now I'll been catching a few bass but no smallmouth. looks like there should be someplaces smallie are schooling in the lake, anybody got any tips

I have caught some and they are hit and miss. I always seem to pick them up on the bluff wall across from the island down from Bailey's point.
I use a 3/8oz black and blue jig with a #11 black and blue Uncle Josh pork frog. look for slides and cuts.
You will catch a ton of Kentucky's along the way,but you may also pick-up a 5 lb Smallie too.
    Good luck.

Most of the ones I catch, usually come from the Bailey's/Dam area. Although, I caught one back in Peter's creek up against the bluff wall by the golf course/power lines....

    Re: smallmouth on barren

Several years back there was a guy down there who was using live skimmer minnows and for several day he and two others caught limts of 4 and 5 lbrs, the sad thing is they kept all of them, I saw these fish as he lived across the street from me, so I know that they were in there. Also look up the river, I used to wade from a small creek near Akersville, to the river and down the river some there, used to catch a ton of good smallies up that area, but there is a place on Barren that is around the area of Bailys point, that holds some good smallies, but it is hard to locate. Good luck.

    Re: smallmouth on barren

Used to catch several in the late 80s, early 90s, but rarely catch them any more. I can't remember the last time I caught a good one. There's just not that many in there now, compared to back then.

I remember fishing a big bass classic in ~'90, and out of the top 10 biggest fish brought to the scales most were smallmouth.
