    Dale Hollow or Kentucky Lake

OK guys........I'm headed out this weekend, leaving Friday, and really want some opinions on where you'd go.

Based on what I know about Dale Hollow......I think I can catch fish there, and have quite a few decent spots. I suspect Float and Fly and Jigs, but who knows...

BUT.........I'd really like to get started at KY lake, but would hate making the trip over there, and not be able to find them. I'm suspecting WAY back in the creeks, following WHERE specifically the shad are, and where I think they will be....Dave Stewart would be proud . If I go to Ky, I'm thinking Shadraps, spinnerbaits, rattle traps in shallow bays, and back of the creeks...........if they are moving, and the shad are there, or Jigs, deeper cranks, etc, etc on lead in banks......

What do you guys think, and if you had a weekend to blow, where would you go?

    Thanks,

    Geo

KY lake...no question...Dale isn't even in the same league as Ky for numbers of 4-6 lb fish. Sounds like you got the right idea on KY lake as well, just be aware that even though the lake is warming, a lot of those fish won't start onto the flats until the water starts coming up. They will still be staging. Also note that if the lake lays down, you can get out on the rock ledges in the 10-12' range and wear the 4-5lb smallies out once you find them.

Ky lake. There were some large bags weighed in this past weekend (23 and 25 pounds). So it is starting to heat up. I have heard of a few good catches shallow, but the most seem to be on the points staging for the water to warm, like Buzzking was saying. I would definitely have a pointer tied on too.

Im with buzz, ky is where its at, Ive even heard pros in the bass masters asked what lake they are looking forward to and them say KY lake. But yea the water temps are still down and that means the motabos are still low not much going on, dont forget they are cold blooded. Water temps are the best way to read fish but this weekend would be a great time to scope out some good spots for the end of april!!!

The bite is good here on Ky. Sorry but just got back online after cable folks have been working on the lines down here again because of ice storm damage. Now the bad news...wind warnings out for Saturday...south wind around 25 mph....lake is gonna roll.

I'm headed to Johnathon Creek this evening for 6 days. I don't think I've been on the main lake with the wind up. With the 25mph S. wind forcasted for Sat. is it possibe to cross the main lake? Would I be better off just staying in the creek. I've got a 20 foot skeeter that would handle the rough stuff, I just want to know what to expect before I go venturing accross the lake.

Latest forecast is for 20-30 from SSW tomorrow. Same for today. Right now wind is about 23 mph sustained from SSW and gusting to 30. I am home today because I cancelled my trip with these winds...that should tell you something...I won't be out there tomorrow either. Best advice I can give you....stay in Jonathan and stay between the 68 bridge and the main lake....west of the bridge will be rolling in Jonathan also.

Hey Buckrub13 if you go rent the movie The Perfect Storm, that will give u a good indication of what the main lake on Kentucky lake will be like sat. U can ask any of these guys from ken lake area on here and they will tell u the same, when the wind is strong, Kentucky lake is the roughest lake in the country to get out on. I found that out the hard way.........no fun, stay in Jonathon creek all sat then hopefully you can venture out sun......good luck
