Yellow Flowers on Ky Lake

You know I've been asked 2 or 3 times when they normally bloom I know in the spring but is it effected by water temp or just air temp? I think it's normally in late March? Early April?

What's your favorite bait/color when they do bloom? I favor Pink - they (bass) just seem to violate anything pink at that time.

I like a spinner bait on the outside of them, or a weightless motor oil trick worm in them.

I missed the flowers last year - the floods kept them about a foot under water.

They usually bloom in late March just before the water comes up...

The flowers are actually wild mustard flowers. As far as colors to fish with in the flowers...that depends on the fish on any given day .

i missed the flowers last year also. will be headed down May 5th for a week full of them flowers!!!!!!!!

I call them Mustard Flowers. You can see them all over the fields if you are driving 68/80 west towards the "Lakes". Love them. Missed them last year due to the high water and can't wait for them this year. Just hoping for a NORMAL spring for my buddy and I will be there for 6 days during the prime time flower bite. As far as colors, Dave is right in that it changes day to day, but I don't carry every color (almost) but pretty much watermelon - _______________ (seed, purple, red, blue, black) fill in the blank, and green pumpkin will work just about all the time. Chart dip the tails, texas rigged, and hang on. I do like spinnerbaits worked thru them, traps out in front of them and topwater over them as well. Pretty much just about all other spring time fishing at Ky and Barkley, fish will be caught and they will be caught on a variety of lures everyday.

I did see some coming up though.................IN some places Dave marked. AND we even caught some fish there.
