Had some time to burn yesterday after dropping the kid off at school, so I decided to head to some of my old stomping grounds and fish some ponds/lakes. The temp was awesome, mid 60's with a nice breeze. First pond I got to, I consider my crappie pond, although I have caughten an occasional nice LM out of there. Little 1/64 oz gold head white jig (tied by yours truly) about 2 foot down is all it took. First cast, my bobber had barely rested on the water and...slip..under she went! MAN IT FELT GOOD!!! Caught around 30 keeper crappies (but I let them go) I was just in it for the fix. After I got tired of crappies, I headed to a local strip mine lake that a friend of mine owns. As I came over the ridge and looked down, the most beautiful thing I have seen in months....largemouth stacked up everywhere! Water was a little discolored, but not bad. Went with my old standby...1/4 oz black/gold spinnerbait. First cast, 3.0lbs....2nd cast 4.2lbs...3rd cast 3.4lbs....you get the idea! Now I'm back at work and all I can think of is when I can get back out. Looks the weather is just getting better and better. IT'S FINALLY HERE!!!
