Moose?

A few years ago, this topic was hot and heavy and you defended them quite a bit.
I want to know if you still like them..........I REALLY need new batteries, and if I can get 4-5 years out of a MAINTENANCE FREE battery.......that is GOLDEN.
Thanks,
Geo
Moose?
Why spend double the price of a regular battery when they all come with the same warranty period anyway. It doesn't make sense to me
They don't all come with the same warranty.........
Optima batteries are Unconditional 2 years.................Everstart from Wallyworld........Well there are signs POSTED stating the battery MUST be DEAD, and not simply discharged. I was at 3 diff stores yesterday.
BPS.........their batteries were 109.00 for Series 27's and 130.00 for series 31 batteries........
For 130.00, I can dump an extra 30 per battery and get the optima's.
ALSO, talked to the service manager at a store that sells optima's, and he said they can barely keep them on the shelves........LOTS of car jocks like those batteries for high end stereo applications, etc, etc........
I'm still looking, because 155.00 per bat is a TOUGH pill to swallow.........

I think Moose was banned from this site some time ago for not playing nicely with others, lol.
I just found this:
http://www.optimabatteries.com/save6...ebate_Form.pdf
I guess you can get 20 bucks back on up to 3 batteries.........60 dollar rebate.........HM.......getting easier to make a decision.

Geo, for what it's worth I've had one for about three years, still going strong and it's been to the bottom of nine ft of water in the Cumberland river no less (not long after I bought it) I wish I'd bought more of them instead of "lesser" ones
Just my $.02 worth and easily worth 1/10 that in this economy![]()
I don't think the optimas have as much reserve capacity as the larger group conventional batteries.
Anyway, I got 7 years out of my last set of everstarts from Walmart. I freaked out when I realized how old they were when checking the manufacturing date. Probably could have gotten even more, because I replaced them, when it was actually my trolling motor that was going bad.
Keep a close watch on the water level, adding distilled water when necessary. Immediately hook them up to the charger first thing when returning.
You know...............I'm pretty good with my batteries......having fished for YEARS, and always taken good care of them.I don't think the optimas have as much reserve capacity as the larger group conventional batteries.

* I have isolaters to keep them from shaking too much in rough weather.
* A pretty good onboard charge, that I've tested a couple times.....
* Watch the water every month or so..........adding when necessary
* Charge them up and recharge as soon as possible........
* Keep the corrosion, and other gunk clear when I can......
BUT I have NEVER been able to make a pair of 12 volts used in a 24v system or a single 12v on a SINGLE 12v motor last even close to 7 years........I think 3 years is the ABSOLUTE BEST I've been able to achieve.....
I fish a LOT........not nearly as much as a Guide or probaby not as much as some here, but I get out 20 or 30 weekends a year, and 2 or 3 times a week in good weather...............Nothing to be on the water 75-100 days.......
So, and I'm smoking CRACK, doing something wrong, or WHAT.

we have all optimas in our boat right now.... and THERE WILL BE NO OTHER BATTERY IN MY BOAT EVER!!!!!!!!! They hold up better over the years... and I THINK they last longer on a charge then any battery I have ever owned! I have many different types wally world, interstate, trogan group 31(very good batteries),everlast, and I am sure a few more over the years.... my boat is on the water ATLEAST 1 day a week, some weeks 3 or 4 days a week every week of the year and I am telling you, you cant go wrong with a blue top optima!
if you buy a set I bet you never buy another brand of battery again!
I have Optimas in my boat and truck and wont buy anything else as well. My boat takes 4 batteries and my truck takes two. It adds up when buying multiples but in the long run they do last longer and ends up being cheaper.
