i could not get the kdfwr to certify this as a spotted bass, she weighed 7lbs 3 oz. which is 7 oz shy of the kentucky state record, let me know if you all think she is a spot or a largemouth

LG Mouth. The jaw will not extend past the eye on a spot.

According to the fishery biologist in this state if it has a distinct tooth patch on the tongue and the jaw plate rear hinge does not stick past the eye then it is a bonified Kentucky. I see the patch of teeth but I can't tell about the jaw hinge. I have seen largeheads with tooth patches but I do feel it's fairly rare. I know one thing that is a Hogdaddy and the latteral line does look a bit like A Spot but the body structure to me looks like a largemouth.

One thing for sure that is a nice fish buddy, be proud.

    Hmmmmm that be tricky!
The spot on the tongue says Spot but, the rest of it looks like a LM.
    Could be a cross.

    Re: spotted bass

thanks for the replys and keep them coming. mhall, i agree with everything you said, it does have the build of a largemouth, but the jaw line, when closed, extended just a little less than one cm behind the center of the eye. i have used the jawline practice before and it always hold true but i have never had one over 3.5 lbs until now. i am going to enclude a picture of a similar size fish from the same lake and let you all compare them... again, the following photo is 100% pure largemouth, use it only as comparison

Great fish Andy, I believe it is a cross I have caught alot of LM with that tooth patch and think they are all crossed. I have not caught one with a tooth patch that big though. Nice.
