First let me start out by saying a big thanks to Dave Stewart for directing me to his post for some lure info and area advice he PM'ed me, he didn't have to say anything but thats the kind of MAN he his, thanks Dave, I really owe you. We arrived Sunday afternoon in Cypress Bay, started fishing around 3 or so. at 3:11, the old man lands a 5lber. What a way to start. At 3:27, I land a 5 1/2, about 50 yrds from where the old man caught his. 3 min later, the old guy loses a solid 5 at the boat, I catch a 4 the next cast. a few cast later, another 4, this is getting really fun by now. Quit at dark with a total of 32, all over 14". Monday, I fished by myself, the old man is sick ( not the weather sickness either) manage 7, 3 keepers during the snow/ sleet storm. Fished Tuesday by myself at the mouth of Cypress and the big lake ( Man the lake is big and the waves??!! is that the Atlantic?), another 5lber, felt like a 20 in the waves! finished Tuesday with 37 not too many good ones but all are good after Mondays mess. Weds. was the day, I ran smack all day to the old man about getting ready to catch a hawg. I pulled a babe ruth, Called my shot! Told him what bank it would happen on, what I would throw, and all that noise! At 2:30, throwing a booyah jig with a zoom speed craw trailer, Mrs Big made an appearance, but she put a flat tire in my hayride by coming off at the boat! The old man said she was atleast 9 I didn't see her when she sided up but I saw her mouth, it was a 5 gallon bucket! Heartbreak to the 10th power! I use a St. Croix rod and the old guy said it was doubled over when I set the hook, and it started making weird noises, I caught a 7 plus at T-ville and it didn't do that! Today was really slow, only 7, 1 small keeper, but had to leave at 1:00, old man is really sick and wanted to go home. I can't believe this place! I had so much fun , Can't wait to go back. Crappie was scattered, some being caught, Bass were hitting crankbaits but I pretty much stayed with a Green Pumpkin Jig or a KVD Perfect plastic rodent in Geen Pumkinseed ( ran out in 1 day , thats why I had to switch to a Jig) Thanks to all who gave me tips! Other than having to fish the majority of time by myself cause the old guy was sick, it was a blast!!!
Thanks for the report. Glad some of my info helped put you on the right track. Hope your dad is feeling better.
Great trip, every time you mentioned "Old Man" in your post I could not keep myself from thinking of DAVE STEWART. You do know that the Dave caught the first Bass ever on a Bamboo rod, line was from strips of a Banana Leaf, and a hook carved out of bone, while bank fishing the Nile River in 245814586957455524 BC.
Very cool report enjoyed reading it. I hope your Dad is feeling better as well. man Ky lake is fishing GOOD this year. Nice to see such a vibrant lake here in the state.
Great report, and congratulations on all those fish, man I have to get down there one of these days!!!!!!!! Hope your Dad feels better, and I hope you feel better after losing a fish like that, I know I would of been seek for weeks.
Awesome sounds like you had a great time, hope your dad gets to feeling better.
Thanks for the report. You have brought back memories of my first trip with my Dad. My Dad is now 83 years old and we are going again this May. Will be our 8th year down there and we are still catching fish on the patterns Dave Stewart showed us. I'm sure this is not your last trip and hope you can get your Dad down again when he is feeling better.
Great report! Hope your Dad feels better!!! It reminded me of my dad 3 yrs ago at Barkley and last yr. at St Clair.
Great Report Been going down with my dad on a spring trip for the last 20 or so years. I will be leaving to go down this monday for 2 weeks. I will be on the south end of the lake. Used to be not that much pressure down there until they tagged the Crappie and did that study a few years ago seams like it really picked up after that but could just be me? I know all about the wind but one of the great things is alot of the out of state ppl have those big deep vee's or small boats so thats when I get out there cause they cant fish the wind blown banks and head for the coves in BR.
Watch yourself now...I will tell you the same thing I told Becky as she was harrassing me because I turned 60 a couple weeks ago....You should hope to look half as good as I do when you get my age.Great trip, every time you mentioned "Old Man" in your post I could not keep myself from thinking of DAVE STEWART. You do know that the Dave caught the first Bass ever on a Bamboo rod, line was from strips of a Banana Leaf, and a hook carved out of bone, while bank fishing the Nile River in 245814586957455524 BC.

First of all BECKY IS A SAINT for putting up with you for a day or week or month much less all these years. Second of all, what are you talking about I wish I looked half as good as you do NOW much less in 19 years when/if I turn 60.
