Trolling Motor Question?

Anyone ever heard of taking a 42"-45" shaft TM and cutting it down a few inches? Is it possible? Anyone evr done this? Thanks...

Completely possible, hand or foot control? Either way the shaft would needed to be cut at the top/cover. There should be one bolt that holds the cover to the shaft, cut the shaft and drill a new hole..... There is plenty of room in the cover to tuck away 3-4 inches wire if that's how much you need to cut. Any more than that IMHO you would need to cut and re-splice the wires together. As far if its a foot control unit there should be a clamp in the cover that holds down the control cable, that would need to be loosened and the slack pulled out. As far as cutting the shaft I would use a pipe cutter so you don't dent or mar up the shaft.. Hope it helps...

Hey man thanks for the input. I'm seriously thinking of doing this I have a foot control that has never been in the water. I will probably try it first the way it is to see if I can live with it.

what oldyota said is possible, but i wouldn't do it if it's new...will void the warranty. if its a minn kota, make sure u use a dremmel tool or something so you don't fracture the shaft.
