I fish and know of several paylakes close to cincy. I have a friend that just opened one in verona ky and he stocks plenty of farm raised channel cats. the limit is 6 per ticket but i threw mine back on the 5th of April and so did my friend and we caught close to 100 fish. Let me know if you live up around here. He will be stocking some bigger fish too but have not gotten them yet.
thanks for the info guys but i should have specified in the louisville/ bullit county area. thanks though
I fish at childress paylake off of bluelick. Front pond is a trophy pond and all cats have to be returned to pond after caught. But there are 2 back ponds which you can keep what you catch. $20.00 per person frt pond--$15.00 per person for back ponds. Hope this helps, good luck
thanks first2fish, do you know if they cahrge for chidren ? hes only 3 so i would hate to have to pay 15 bucks for him. also what type of bait works for those fish ? i used to go wih my dad and he had all kinds of stuff that he made up to catch them. i would like to keep it simple if possible. we fish the ohio river for cas and mainly use shad or skips and i have a few freezer bags of them at home just wonder if the farm raised channel cats eat the same way the river cats do?I fish at childress paylake off of bluelick. I am a regular at the pay lakes around Louisville. I know Childress Lake well and the best advice I can give you is to avoid it on weekends. That place is crazy packed and those people show no regard. One of my fishing partners saw a guy pull a gun over there one day. I have not been back. Just down the street from Childress is Gilbert's pay lake. That is where i normally fish. It costs $15 but I think he charges kids $8. The crowd isn't as bad and Bob will not let people act as crazy. He is stocking farm raised cats on every day except Thursdays this season and also has big fish jackpots and tournaments. If you are taking a youngster, there is also a bonus pond that is smaller and heavily stocked but he only opens it up while there is a big fish tournament going on on the main lake (Wednesday 6pm). The fish here bite various baits; cut bluegill, shrimp, chicken, wax worms, etc. Here is his site: http://www.geocities.com/gilbertslake1/index.html
I also fish West Wind paylake which is located at 19000 Taylorsville Road in Fisherville. She has 3 lakes, 2 of them are stocked regularly. It is a decent place to fish, also costs $14 or $15 but less for kids. Don't know as much about it but I had a couple days last year of 25+ fish. The bluegill are awful in the back lake so the best bait is cutbait. The front lake gets packed so I avoid it usually.
If you ever want to go catfishing at a paylake, PM me a day or two in advance and I would love to fish with you and hopefully catch you some cats. I usually have plenty of bait and know what theyre biting. This link has all the paylakes in KY with addresses so you can mapquest them. http://www.kyagr.com/marketing/aquac...rmitnumber.xls
i agree west winds is ok but gilberts is alot better i always use livers on the bottom no weight dont walk away from your pole or itll be a goner
strawberry chicken or peppermint chicken works aswell good luck < tip it with a nightcrawler
