Good luck! I've planned on going to Kentucky Lake for my first time this year, and both times the person I was going with (who has the boat, unfortunately) has cancelled. I'm going to make it down there someday, I hope! Let us know how you do!

Surely Mike will post when he gets back, if he gets back from KY Lake tonight or tomorrow but just a little TEASER for all of you for his first HOUR on the lake Tuesday morning:

West wind gusting to about 30, monsters blowing straight into the LBL side, Mike and his buddy also named Mike by the way, in his buddy's boat a Norris Craft I think, very low profile looks a lot like a Bullet from the side, one that does not look like it would take the waves very good, both Mikes had never been on either lake, they are in Duncan and see the waves pick up more and more and move back to Sugar closer to the ramp. The teaser involves, dcbasser taking a bath in the boat, water completely over the hull inside the boat, 50 gallons plus dumping on his HEAD, full rain gear both of them, off the water, showered and sitting at Chilis eating lunch in Paducah by noon. He can name the rest but when I asked him did he peg on and did the water come over the trolling motor he said "I could not see anything for the water was coming in the boat over my HEAD". Nuff said, Ky is no place to play in the wind. I say this and Hens and I ran 12 miles one way to our first spot early before the wind got up but busted 4 hernias, a set of hemroids and punched 6 holes in my boat in getting back. Going across the mouth of Blood River back to Ken Lake was TORTURE

Please be careful using the word "Torture" on any web site, as you may be investigated, and prosecuted for such tactics, just kidding. Good luck, and I hope you catch the one that got away last time down!

I'm headed down tomorrow night and I see Friday's forecast is for 17mph winds from SSW. Should I avoid the lbl side of KY? I'll be fishing out of a 17ft fish and ski. Would Barkley be better? Thanks

I wouldn't go on the main lake when the wind picks up above 12-15 mph out of the south or north! we went down for the first time a month ago, and goin out with 10 mph wind out of the north wasn't too bad (about 3-4 ft. chop), but comin back was hairy...kicked up to nearly 15-20 mph and made about 5-6 ft. swells. That was a very gut-wrenching situation in a 17 ft. Fisher Pro Hawk, basically a wide Deep-V. From what I've heard, when the wind comes from the south it's even worse. Just be careful out there! I'd suggest a VHF Radio in case anyone gets in trouble out there. Shouldn't be as bad blowing from the SSW, just watch the weather for changes.

North Barkley would be your best bet in a boat that size w/ the ssw winds. Main lake shouldn't be that bad up there.

LOL Well guys and gals I did indeed made it back from Kentucky Lake and let me tell you it was an adventure to say the least. Let me start out the trip out on a rainy Sunday afternoon. The adventure begins a 4..5 hour drive to me and my buddies destination of Kentucky Lake and hog heaven. 2.5 hours into the drive wheel bearing goes out on the trailer and we are sitting in Russellville on a sunday afternoon wondering now what. Get new bearings 1.5 hours later thanks to a kind gentlemen who took the time to run us to the nearest autozone. New bearings on only to find out the hub has been rimmed out and will not work. Now what to do you might ask? Fortunatly another gentlemen stops buy and takes us to the nearest Tractor and Trailer Supply and we get a new hub for 52 dollars that comes with everything and now I have a spare in my Blazer in case this ever happens again. 4 hours broke down and still no sign of Kentucky Lake. Finally make it to the lake at approximatly 8:30 after leaving out at noon.
First day on the water and we are loving it some rough waves but nothing that hurt but did take an awful beating. Over 60 fish caught between the two of us and we are loving and top it all off Elwoods world famous Jumbalia that was excellent. Great day.
Day two on the water, what can you say, we find a nice spot and are going to have a killer day, not a far drive on the water and the big fish bite is going to be great. 30 minutes in and we look back and guys and gals there is a tsunami coming that should have been covered on world news somewhere. We decide to get back to our ramp before it gets worse and it all began. 4 foot, 5 foot maybe even six foot rollers started coming in over the boat and nothing and I mean nothing would have kept us dry in that mess. we take the first roller over the boat not to bad get a little wet, I can deal with that, and then as I get the water out of my eyes, nose, ears, another one hits and correction Elwood there was 100 gallon water come over the nose of the boat and I figure I will now be living as Gilligan on some island until someone comes and rescues us. Hairest thing I have ever seen and the only way to give you picture of what it was like is to watch the movie A Perfect Storm with George Clooney. Get back to the ramp and call it a day after that only too find that my wife's 300 dollar digital camera popped out of the dry storage box and is now destroyed, how am I going to break this to her. Go back to the cabin, take my third shower of the day and its not even noon yet and go site seeing.
But not all is lost today decided to fish this morning and did manage to catch over forty fish with some nice 3+ fish and two that broke my line. One a decent 5+ and then another that could have been my biggest yet but hey thats fishing. But here I am safely at home with lots and lots of memories from my first trip to Kentucky Lake, no pictures but memories and had an absolute ball. Got to meet up again with Elwood ( thanks for all your help ) and finally got to meet Cliff. I will be back a little wiser I hope and if you have not been there check it out just remember wear you lifejackets and be safe, lots of moments that we an laugh about now but a situation that could have been a lot worse if ain't careful. Good fishin to you all.

Go buy the honey a $400 digital camera and she will forget all about that $300 one that got a bit damp.

I don't know what to think about a fella that goes thru all that just to get to the lake then lets a little "moisture" run him off the water and into Paducah eating lunch by noon at O Charleys.

From the looks of your buddy's boat and how much water was in the battery storage area, it was million gallons that came in on you.

Re: Kentucky Lake here I come.............

I just got back from Blood on Friday spent allmost two weeks there. We did fairly decent this time even thought the weather wasnt the best. Really looks like Ky Lake is having a turn around from years past on Crappie. Know we wernt slaying them but we did catch alot of fish every day we went out and it seams like we had alot more quality fish this year
We did have a lot of shorts which seamed to be the main complaint from everyone we were fishing with but all of them I cought will be the fall or next years keepers which is a good thing
AND where else can you have a 50+ bass day on a lake. even with the weekend and tourny pressure this lake gets I threw nothing but a white spinner and had a ball when the crappie shut down for the afternoon BUT I AM WORKING ON A GAS 20HP 500lb VARI SPEED trolling motor for this lake.
DO I have anyone interested in a pre-order LOL
WOW went to fish the Islands down near Paris Well thats all I have to say for you that have been on the lake to know what I am saying I Swear I thought I should have been settin CRAB POTS than Crappie fishing

LOL I know what your saying on the crab pots. We could have set a few ourselves with the wind and the waves that we had down there. But truly an awsome lake and can't wait to go there again.
