Scratching my head, wondering where this spring went???

    Guys-
Don't know if you all feel the same way, but I just came to the realization that I have not fished enough this spring. There are several factors to this realization: weather, work, family, school, etc. I swore to myself last year that I wasn't going to let this spring get away without puting some quality hours on the water, and here I am again with spring blowing by me! Everyday I am at work or busy with something else, I think to myself, "I need to be fishing, I'm going to miss it!". I am re-dedicated to get out this next week, no matter what the cost. Not sure where I will go, but I will report back if I do. So to the rest of you, go fishing for me and make sure to keep your lines tight!

I hear you an can relate. The weather this spring has been pretty rough. I tried a number of times to get out and had long extended cold fronts.

In fact, if you look at the 10 day forecast right now it is the first time this year we have had an extented period or moderate temperature days. The next ten days looks like a period I would have expected in April.

I ended up going down to Lake Okeechobie region mid-April for my big spring fish and they bit great. Weather and water were very stable.

I'd be out on the creeks of the Ohio this weekend but noticed the water was very high and muddy Friday when I drove by.

I look forward to retirement with the hope I can fish when weather permits.

Seems like every chance I had to get out this spring,we either had a cold front or it rained like the dickens (No Offense Jim).
I fish the Licking river alot and so far it's been up and too muddy to do much 90% of the spring.White Bass run is over and never got to go.I have hit a few farm ponds with good results, caught an 8lb Largemouth a couple of weeks ago in one, while I intended on releasing him,I think the cold water and pulling him in too quick did him in.I couldn't revive him,he will be on the wall unintentionally.

I feel your pain brothers. I had a kentucky lake trip planned twice this spring, and both times had to cancel because of weather! *****! I also went for the whites this spring (one time) and we never really locked in on them like springs past. We still did catch around 30, but we had to work for em. Pond fishing looks like the way to go right now with all the lakes up and muddy. Maybe that is what I should do this next week. Who knows. All I know is that I need to get out and wet a line ASAP! Take it easy.

Man, like you I told myself the same thing so I have been going regardless of rain, wind, clouds, sun, work, muddy water, time or anyother excuse I can use this Spring and have had some great catches!
It's a tough hobby at times but someone has to do it. Good luck to ya...

Re: Scratching my head, wondering where this spring went???

I am off four days a week and still only got to go once a week this spring if that. I got a new boat this year and have not had the time to enjoy it. I have a 9 month old girl that LOVES her daddy time and the weather has been horrible when I could go. I have only been able to hit Stoner twice this year and I have been to Herrington three times during frontal days (tough) and Wilgreen twice. I am hoping to get to do alot more fishing this summer when I can sneak away at night.

Wink Re: Scratching my head, wondering where this spring went???

Its sad when the factors that keep you inside/at home are out of your control. My partner and I fished a tournament on KY/Barkley last weekend (we had planned it for close to six months). When we were getting ready to leave, my grandmother passed away so we had to postpone a couple of days before we could leave since I served as a pallbearer. When we left out and finally got to practice the day before the tournament, it rained and rained and rained and rained (you get the point). It never stopped raining, not for one minute. Because of the rain, it made fishing for big girls on the bed impossible. The cold fronts (2 of them back to back in 3 days), dropped the water temp considerably, as well as the air temp. Needless to say, we had envisioned ourselves catching big fish after big fish and we never got the chance to do so.

That's just the way the cards are dealt sometimes. You can't do anything about it. I think it's God's way of teaching everyone PATIENCE!

Although that Saturday we did find fish, although none were keepers. We just went fishing, if you know what I mean. Caught close to 100 nonkeepers, and had a ball while doing so.

I fish in about anything if I'm there when it hits and sometimes the bite is great in bad weather. For me though, I won't drive 280 miles to Barkley for the weekend if I know it is going to be 44 with 15mph winds. On the other hand, if one waits for perfect weather to fish in this part of the country you can miss the entire spring.

I'm certainly glad I dropped my Barkley trip in April and went far south. I was feeling bad about missing the pre-spawn run when I departed for Florida but watching the weather I could see it was really raw weather here while I boated 225 bass in a week down south with a post spawn girl that was 9.1! Though for sure it was my first 10lber but no luck

I got in a very nice trip to Barkley in late March and had a great time. Seems like late March was better then most of April weather wise this year.

I'm ready for the Ohio to drop so I can start chasing them in the creeks. Maybe a 10 day stretch of dry weather will help.

    Tight lines.

Re: Scratching my head, wondering where this spring went???

With the exeption of the farm pond...and one foul weather trip to Dale (and I do mean FOUL WEATHER!), I too have almost missed out on spring....my pathetic excuse is due to work, work, and then I had to work some more, 60 hour weeks, etc...but this work load of mine should slow down considerably after May 12th, at least I am hoping so anyway. The weather does not keep me from going unless it's just stupid crazy bad weather...but when the boss man calls ya gotta answer to him. Hang in there RichyD...Spring ain't over until June 21st buddy!
